Doesn't sound like a chipset problem to me... which graphic card are you
using (if on-board what chipset)? -In fact a complete spec of your machine
wouldn't be a bad idea at this point, IMO.

Does the game do this whether you select SVGA mode or not?

OK..

Specs are as follows:

P3 600MHz 133 CPU
M/B GA6VXE7+ FCPGA ATX
128Mb SDRam
Nvidia/M64/TNT2

The game does this in both modes SVGA and VGA

I've tried updating all drivers (video, chipset etc) and it still just
freezes up on the starting line.  The menu navigation is absoloutly fine,
but as soon as the race is to start....FREEZE.

Thanks for that Jan, and I apologise for being an *** earlier.  But this
thing is starting to***ME OFF !!

A longshot (as I don't have GP2), but have you tried running it without
sound?  I know I've had difficulty getting some old DOS games to work with
modern windows soundcards.

Might be worth a try, anyway....

It was very common that old shitty DOS games (similar to my
shitty posts I suppose) did not like new fangled hardware,
specifically new fangled video cards. Try Sci_tech Display
Doctor which will create a sort of wrapper to interface
between an old shitty game and your newfangled video
card.

If Display Doctor has not been updated for your TNT2 you
are just ***ed. Time to give it up ect... Oh and this isn't my
opinion. It is the way it is :-)

I can't answer the problem, but for the record I can run GP2 very
happily in either a DOS window or 'pure' DOS.

I don't recall offhand what my mobo is (and dammit I bought and
fitted the thing myself!!!) but I use a genuine Creative PCI
Soundblaster and Guillemot TNT2 M64 running on W98SE... Oh, CPU
is AMD K6-2 450mhz, 128MB RAM.

Of course I'd love to add more RAM and upgrade the graphics card,
but...

Hoping that his setup will run GP half as well...  ^_-

If you want to get GP2 working in W98, just go and get
GP3. That is apparently all it is anyway :-)
