Typical, around lap 25 i lost my focus, changed down to second in
turn 2 and blew the engine...

It was noticable that most drivers were a lot more careful this time,
looked like good clean racing to me.

Now, if we could only keep that attitude, and turn the yellows on
again :)

Though I'd like the yellows on again too (if only to top up on cafeine), I'm
glad they were off this time as I had two solo spins which might have
brought one out!

Well, just to throw my two cents in :)

I still would have liked to have seen yellows.  I think my race today would
have come out a WHOLE lot different if they were in effect.

Nice experiment, but I think it's better with Yellows on.

Congrats to John Simmons!
Race results are up: http:www.umich.edu/~epickett/rascar.html
Didn't think I'd get 'em don that quick, DID ya?<g>

Sorry to the cars I jammed up on the front straight at around lap 58.  There
was a group of 3 or 4 cars that were lapping me.  My intention was to pull over
to the left and let the whole group go by, as I'd done before.  For some reason
the lead car stayed right behind me as I moved left on the turn.  We continued
until we were almost at the wall, and he tried to pass me on the left.  So now,
I have to give him room on the left...  We touched, I spun to the right, into
the other cars that had stayed on the right.  I'm not sure what the lead car
was trying to do - I certainly wasn't gonna BLOCK him(remember, they were
lapping me).  If he'd simply stayed to the right, he would have maintained his
position at the head of the draft, and everyone would have gone on their way.
Oh well...I *tried*... :(

I did that on the last lap in turn three and lost 1 or 2 positions. Didn't
blow the engine, but spun me very nicely.

This was a shi**y race for me. :-)

First of all, I had four freezes. I give up on that now. I just wasted money
on a new CD-RW yesterday in a desperate attempt to solve the problem (to go
along with wasting money by replacing perfectly good ram awhile back).

More importantly to me is why the h*ll was my car so slow? I can do 55.5's
fairly easily, and my best with the fixed fast setup (no draft help and
actually very little practice) is a 55.136. Did a 55.15 late last night and
just did the 55.136 after the race offline to make sure I wasn't going
crazy. 55.2's and 55'3's weren't rare in testing the past couple of days.

In practice before the race I noticed immediately that the car was slower on
acceleration. My practice times sucked and I couldn't even get out of the
56's! Qualified with a 56.006. Disconnected from the race and rebooted the
game but was still slow in warmup. My best race time with the help of
drafting was just a 55.6.

Looking at the results at the RASCAR page, it's obvious to me that something
was screwed up with my game as the qualifying times are right where I
expected them to be for guys like Jason and Ian based on what they said they
were able to do the past few days in practice.

Anyone have any idea why this would happen? I drove 100 laps completely
pissed because of this. I wonder how many of you had the same situation but
just didnt realize it?

You know David, I had the EXACT same thing happen to me awhile back at an
Indy race..........joined in practice race-night, and it was like I was
dragging an anchor(fixed setup/weather).
At the time, I told myself I was imagining things, but numbers don't lie.
Then, thought it was my pots; quickly replace them, same thing.

   Veeery interesting..........

That's kind of funny.  You had the exact same problem I did, except I was
staying high and out of the way.

I guess there is no way to really win :)

Pocono is a track where slow guys can stay high and give the fast line to
the leaders.  The trouble with this...is the flat nature of Pocono.  IF the
passing car carries too much speed, he won't be able to stay down by the
curb and if he drifts up to the outside....whose there?  The lappee...

How about the temperature?
Could it have been a hot race?
Wind?

If that happens, the leaders made a rookie mistake. A lapping car should be
aware of who he's about to pass, as there's no need to pass a lapped car in
such a risky manner.

Hi Dave,

I can't say anything about why you were slower, but reading your message I
remembered that I also get screen freezes in N2002, albeit very very short
ones (a split second) when someone joins the server.

I don't know what actually makes N2002 trip briefly over this, but since
this is obviously related to being online, I thought maybe that would be
something to look at in your case as well. If it's in your case not the
advent of someone new to the server, maybe it's something your online
connection does which has the same effect on N2002 like someone joining the
server has on my system?

This is a bit of wild guessing, but I thought I'd mention it anyway, as
obviously you've pretty much depleted the default resources for problem
solutions WRT this matter.
