I was back there with Eldred and ZZ until I tried to pass(yes pass!)
someone,  hooked the curb and spun.  Then a short while later(now behind
Eldred and ZZ) I hit a wall(always get that confused, wall good or wall
bad?)  then while poking along with a little damage I moved high at the
tunnel turn to let somebody thru and hooked into the inner wall...(wall bad
I guess)  engine damaged but running, crawled back to the pits for
repairs...got out again but only did one lap...couldn't even break
100mph...so back to the pits to retire.
Oh well don't worry folks, it'll be along time before I get another
Saturday off...:)

>Eldred, you did just fine (you weren't last - grin).  Just go ahead and
>join the races, drive your best, and have some fun.

The "fun" factor tends to vanish when you're at least 2 seconds off everyone's
pace.  The only reason I didn't finish last was that people either crashed out,
got disco'd, or had to leave for other reasons.

I couldn't even keep up with people when I was right behind them, following in
their tire tracks.  I don't understand why, either.  If I slowed enough to make
the turn, the car in front pulled away.  If I tried to maintain the same speed,
my car washed out in the turn.  Frustrating.  I had to actually BRAKE in turn 2
to stay in control - I didn't see too many other cars that had to do that...

ZZ is a better driver than I am - he beats me in a league we're in, he beats
me(usually) in the RASCAR races.  He just had a problem yesterday for some
reason...

If we continue to follow the real WC schedule, then we are about to do the
following tracks all over again after just running them in recent weeks:

Chicago
New Hampshire
Pocono (run twice already)
Indy
WG (twice already)
Michigan
Bristol (twice already)
Richmond
Dover (twice already)
Kansas

Doesn't sound like fun.

How about throwing in some tracks we've missed like Texas and Las Vegas, and
also we could run Coca Cola.

my

naaah,,,

if it ever happens to you, you'll know what they're speaking of.... it's way
different.  it's like racing thru clear jello that keeps everything looking
the same, just slower.  it's happened to me a couple of times online.  i
thought it was the old 56k.....  after having it one more time without the
56k... it's something else.....

it's intermittent, but it seems i know it first by my perception of speed,
when i know i should be faster.

I was braking for all the turns...

I'll watch the replay and try to see what you're doing.

did you take a look at Ed's excellent Dover movie? According to
it I shouldn't even have been allowed to the grid at Pocono!

Sorry you left so soon, I would have loved a good battle with
you in that race. Now on to Michigan!

Not true.  You beat me fair and square, Elred, and my tyres,
they were a'flamin ;-)

Honestly, good drive. I made two pit stops that last a wee
while longer than they should have. Otherwise, I gave my best,
and still you beat me.

Now look at your gpl handicap and look at mine.

What does this tell us?

Cheers,

uwe

could it be some background task on your own system making things slower?
That would cause the jello feeling

One possible cause could be that someone with a bad connection is on that
server.

If only one of the others has a seriously bad connection (mainly bad quality
causes this) all other clients will feel it - it can cause precisely the
jello feeling Rob described.

If there are two or more clients with a bad connection, this can make the
driving really difficult because the car is more difficult to control, and
it can even cause others with good connections to get discoed.

I'm not entirely sure about the technical background anymore (I used to know
this when GPL was still young) but one of the Papy guys in the forum could
probably explain it easily.

Thx Eldred.
I just had a hard with the handle for the setup. Plus I just switched to a
USB controller for my TSW2 and need to get 250k ohm pots for it. They come
Monday.
I hate being a lapped car and being a hazard to other drivers, so I left.
I'll be back  ( Quotes the Terminator)  ;-)
