F1 2001 - Finially got it running!

OK after much experimentation yesterday I decided to upgrade
my RAM. After all the framerate was the same at 640x480
and 800x600, and I saw allot of disk access during the race
with 4 cars visible.

So I upgraded to 384MB from 128MB and set the visible cars
back to 15. Man is it ever awesome. No pauses at the beginning
(I started 22nd) of a quick race at all. So the key appears to be
RAM.

Totally cool game with the best FF effects I have felt to date.
I Love the changing weather, and other details. I tried a practice
session at Monaco. I went out and the pit light was still red. I
waited and it changed to green. I love that detail. Plus finally a
"reasonable" amount of breakdowns during races :-)

Phew!

I made the same upgrade today and the results were tremendous. I am running
on an old PIII-500 with a GeForce2 GTS and the game is very smooth.

How do you adjust the number of visible cars?

I don't see it anywhere in Options.

Go to the "saved" directory and edit your *.PRL file.

For some silly racing I really like the red/green light too :D
Yup, one fine sim this one, the patch made the beta feeling go away
(mostly :)
