Got that Dual Celeron 464 with WinNT 4.0 waiting for the real thing.
Symetrical processing should help GPL and I think online racing should
benefit most. One processor servising serial port and AI and the other for
graphics.
BTW anyone able to get GPL 1.0 stable under NT 4.0. I hope it is corrected
in the patch and it is not because of my SBLive that GPL is crashing in NT.

Announcing 1.1 must have been Papys way of trying to get GPL some ofthe
glory like the way we are all waiting for GP3 and have waited for GP2 in the
past, nice try but face it Papy, GPL ain't up to that good old Geoff
Crammond standard.

really played every single free moment!

and don't forget, you're getting it for FREE, and that Papyrus/Sierra wasn't
oblige to
do that patch. So you should all be thankful to them for doing one, since
other company
probably would not have done it at all !!!

So a big applause so be in order for Papyrus/Sierra instead of crying after
them !!!

Very well said! But saying other companies are not patching their software
is not fair. They do! And many quite faster and more frequently than
Papy/Sierra.

In Reality you should be thanking Randy, he has been doing this almost totally
by himself in his spare time.
The hold up is with Sierra Europe and their translation.

Randy we are forever indebted to you.

Thanks

Excuse me??

Gp2 was good in it's day, but has been completely and utterly blown out of
the water by GPL (and nothing has touched it since it's release IMO). I
basically stopped playing Gp2 when I got the GPL demo, having grown tired of
the many physics quircks in the Gp2 model. Gp3 will have to get rave reviews
and good recommendations from a number of trusted friends before I will even
consider buying it, but that's beside the point.

I can't believe the hype over this patch, it's not like we need it to be
able to play the game (like the 3Dfx patch for N2), now do we? -No, it's
just an enhancement to what is already a great game. As far as I'm concerned
Papy can take all the time they want (and get some work done on N3 while
they're at it ;-)).

Yes, GPL is ofcourse superb without the patch.
But I can't wait for the patch for 2 reasons:
1. Bugfix for the AI braking at Parabolica, Monza
2. The FORCE FEEDBACK!!!!!

When it's really crowded I can't hear my own engine, having force
feedback will make driving without hearing the engine so much
easier...

That is, if the ff is up to the Viper Racing standard.

Yeah, don't forget Geoff Crammond's superior track record at patching
his GP2 right?! Give me a break. And GP2 had missing features such as
weather effects etc. that had been promised in the press releases from
Microprose.

I was a *huge* GP2 fan, but let's not confuse the facts, GP2 was great for
it's time (although it had some quirks that Geoff never patched) and GPL is
great now, and it also has a few quirks, the difference is that Papyrus
*is* patching it.

As far as GP3 goes, I'll believe it when I see it, we waited almost 3 years
for GP2 after Microprose started releasing press statements about it.

Papyrus afraid of GP3? I doubt it (although I hope Geoff really does
produce something for them to be fearful of, competition is good for
us the fans).

Seeyas on the track.

The way people are whining about this patch, people would think that there
are serious flaws with the original, which there aren't. At least that is to
say, there are no real issues that can spoil  the pleasure of driving the
greatest sim to date in any any significant way. Come on guys, GPL aint
perfect (what is), but it aint the end of the world if we have to wait a
little longer for some improvements on what is already sitting on top of the
pile. All this patch really amounts to is the wax polish on the Ferrari
paint job.

I went through this whole thing before and don't want to get it started
again,

Firstly, I think patches are the biggest load of ***on this earth, why
can't companies put enough research and testing in before releasing it too
early for their own good.

But if they won't test them as much as we/I would like then I'm glad they
make patches,

To be honest GPL has alot of good stuff but its still not the top sim in my
mind, thats just an opinion but its my opinion.

But anyway, I don't want to get the whole "GPL is the best sim ever and go
to hell if you don't think like me" thing going again, so we might as well
drop it.

no, the only thing GPL beats about GP2 is it has 3DFX support, I can't think

Look, many of us were diehard GP2 fanatics for years, so you are preaching
to the choir (we know GP2 was great), but that was in GP2's heyday, if you
honestly have tried GPL and cannot feel the superior physics of GPL
(hint - no canned spins, or how about the changes in camber of the GPL track
surfaces among many other improvements) then you might as well quit reading the
newsgroup and go back to playing GP2 since nothing new will ever be better
for you.

Must ... resist .... feeding... the TROLL... (next time)
