Hi all..loaded the latest 21.83's for the gf3 and now can run f1 2001
without crashing. Very choppy set at desktop res of 1280*1024. Will follow
some advice from previous posts  to get it running smooth.

Try running in a lower resolution and especially go to 16 bit.

If you want pretty graphics over smooth play, then stay at 1280x1024.  To
me, there's no express reason why anyone would want to pump F1 2001 up so
high, resolution wise.

I'm guessing that that could be your problem.

I cannot find much difference in speed between the lowest 16 bit and
the highest 32 bit!! And both give object detail level "full" and
texture detail level "minimum", when I run the config analyze!!

(I have AMD 1.13GHz, GF2 GTS with driver 12.90.)

Strange! Any ideas?  (and windowedmode=1 crashes the program...)

And when I run the config analyze with windowedmode=1, I get
triangle rate  "Cannot set mode"
object detail level "Full"
texture detail level "Full"

(windowedmode=0 produces "1,8 Mtri/second")

Perhaps this helps someone diagnose my problem?!

eh.... the reason might be to get much better looking graphics maybe?
I run at 1280 and it's as smooth as you could possibly want and that's with
everything set to max.

Sure, but if it's not smooth, would you sacrifice high resolution for smooth
gameplay?

Is it running in window mode or full screen? Run in windowed  mode for
good frame rates.

I've read this advice dozens of times! In my system this ***y
program makes "illegal" something and crashes, when windowed...
(AMD 1.13MHz, GF2GTS 12.90)                                      :-(

I got a crash if I didn't set my desktop to the same res as the
windowed mode for the game. Are you setting the desktop to the same
res as the game?

The only time I got winowed mode crashing is when my desktop was not
set to the same res as the windowed mode. If you run the game at
1024x768 then set the desktop to the same res too.

I have it running nicely now however I cannot get my TSW to work. Appears as
if it is not recognized once I leave the controller screen and try to drive.
I lose my throttle?

Thanks Dave! That helped in the crashing problem!

But the textures still stay "low" and graphics did not
become faster...
