F1 2001 crashing back to desktop after race

by Heckler 2oo » Wed, 13 Mar 2002 01:53:00

Just noticed that after running a race with F1 2001 or the 2002 season
update it crashes back to the desktop. You finish the race, it goes to the
results page and when you click on accept it crashes.

It was running fine before, I'm thinking it is to do with that damn update 2
patch... it's caused nothing but problems.. I installed it and the game
wouldn't run at all, so I uninstalled it and it wouldn't run, I reinstalled
the update 1 patch and things worked once more... until I noticed this bug.

So I'm faced with doing yet another clean install in a different place and
then installing all the mods once more... I'm not happy.

On the up side, I was getting frustrated at using a Logitech Wingman FF
joystick with racing games, and my M$ sidewinder pad was no good for racing
games... so I went out and bought a thrustmaster dual analogue FF pad
thingy, it was on sale. Very impressed I am too... I know you die hards only
like to use a wheel, but I'm so used to a dual shock pad from years of
playing on a PSX, and this feels so natural to me... already knocked over 2
seconds of my best time at Melbourne.. now running a lap at 1:28.438.

I haven't put the 2002 cars in, but I do have the 2nd update AND the FIA
GT mod, both seem to run fine.

I don't know what happened, but the problem seems to have cleared it self
up... Just run two races with no crashes, one was a Quick race, the other
round 4 of a championship. I came 1st in the quick race and 7th in the
championship race.

I am getting better though, but committed a cardinal sin in the
championship. I forgot to check the weather for the actual race and it was
raining and  left my slicks on... Struggled round and into the pits to
change wheels and then fought my way back up to 7th... Luckily my 1 stop
strategy helped as every one else seemed to 2 stop, and nearly half the
field DNF due to mechanical or accidents.... Including Schumacher,
Coulthard, Montoya.

After 4 rounds I'm in 6th place with a lousy 6 points, I miscalculated my
fuel at Brazil and was running first when I ran out on the last corner and
ended up coming in 8th.

But the first season I ran I scored 3 points over the entire season, so I'm
improving a little at a time, I've got my Aus lap times down from 1:32 to
1:28.. still something like 5 seconds slower than the good drivers though.

I spoke to soon, ran round 5 of a season and won the race, then it crashed
when loading round 6... It seems to happen totally at random.

What length races are you running in your championship season?  Just curious...

In F1 2001 I'm running 40% length, and in the 2002 season mod I'm running
50%.

For some reason it hasn't happened in the FIA GT or ALMS GT mods.
