Superbike 2001, crash to desktop

by Mark Harvel » Thu, 02 Aug 2001 09:09:43

Have the old SBK and it runs fine.  Got the new Superbike 2001, and it
crashes to desktop after it loads a game.  The installation went fine.  Any
thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

I had to set my desktop color depth to 16bpp to get that game to
start.  I cannot begin to describe how much I hate that.

Why? You should always set your desktop to 16bit when running a game,
unless the game is running in 32bit. Setting the desktop tp 32bit and
then runnign a lower colour bit game causes poorer performance in the
game.

Ok I had the same problem and it all started when I upgraded to Dx8, what
version are you running?, I now have x7 and it will work fine. Don`t know if
anyone else has noticed this.

no, it doesn't.  you see, games can set their own color-depth.  the
desktop color depth is totally irrelevant.  as you long as you run
your games in full-screen, of course.

Actually, N4 running in open GL uses the desktop colour setting, at least it
does with my ATI Radeon card.

I've noticed it. Is there really lots of trouble to go back to 7. I'd really
like to play SBK 2001 again

ok, maybe it does, but there's no need, or reason for it to do so.

I just reinstalled SBK2001 yesterday and I'm running DX8.1 on a
Geforce2 with 12.90 drivers and had no problems at all.

Depends on the game. I've read many game readme files that state
exactly what I said.

sure but it's totally unnecessary, it's bad programming, and it
_really_ annoys me. :)
