F1 2001 crashes to desktop when I try to start a race

Then game seems to run ok through the menus, but once I try to run a race
the game crashes.
Does the patch help with this possibly. I have not tried it yet.
Are there any sound card or videocard incompatbilities.
I am using an athlon 1.4GHZ, a 3DFX VooDoo 5500, and a soundblaster 16

I've had this happen to me a couple of times too. I also have a 1.4ghz
Voodoo5 5500. I've also got a SB Live 5.1, on a KT7A-Raid MB.

What drivers and OS are you running?

Try the patch. Seems to have solved this problem for a lot of people.

 Iam running windows 98 SE
All of my other games run fine on this system, including Superbike 2001,
SCGT,GPL, Viper racing, Nascar 4, Nascar Heat, and numerous others.
