F1 2001 crashing

Hey guys...

Well, after a few days, I really like F1 2001.  It drives great, looks and
sound superb.  Not so sure about the AI yet as I haven't done enough racing.

But, I'm having real problems with it crashing all the time!  Every ten
minutes or so, it just freezes completely, and I have to do a 'hard reset'.

I have a PIII 866, 256 ram, Matrox Milenium 450.  I've never had any
problems with any other sims  (GPL, N4, SCGT, GP3 etc...) but F1 2001
crashes.  It sound like a heat problem thing, but I tried running at the
lowest graphics, screen res. and sound quality, as low as it goes, and it
still crashed.

Does anyone have any ideas???

Thanks in advance..

Drivers? DX maybe? Just stabbing in the dark, but it sounds very
driver sensitive...

I bet you overclocked the processor.Am i right!
I had the same problem. Not sure but to me,it sounds like processor
overheating. This game seems extremely demanding on the cpu.Mine is
overclocked from 600/800MHz.First,make sure your cpu and power supply fans
are clean and close all the programs running in the background(Ctrl+Alt+Del)
except Explorer and Systray.

Let me know if it solves the problem or helps !

I have exactly the same problem James.  I've been through about half a dozen
different nVidia drivers and all bring up different problems.  Was this game
beta tested?

That's true Bruno. It is weird however, because mathematical software
working through large databases also demands a lot of  the CPU. But the
software does not crash.
My solution was very simple. I simply opend up the pc on one side, letting
the air in. But it did not solve the problem. Than I  increased the voltage
on the cpu wat .o5 volt and all's well. Closing the pc immediately locks the
pc after using any graphics intensive game after 5 minutes ( F1RC also). So
from now on my pc is openend on one side until I find a better solution. And
yes, keep the fans clean, certainly the one you use with the graphics card
if you use any.
Good luck James.

scrcs,
Opening the case on one side solved the problem for me.
I'm running this little program called Rain1.0 in the background. It's a
small utility that makes the cpu run cooler.Maybe you and James can try
it,because it seems to work for me.Or you can add extra fan in your pc case.

You can download Rain 1.0 at

http://www.slottweak.com/   in the Misc/Utilities section

Hope this helps
