F1 2001 Crashes on startup in XP

F1 2001 Crashes on startup in XP

I just did a full installation of f1 2001.  After i ran 3d setup, i run the
game and it crashes to the desktop. The f12001 image loads for a sec and
then crashes. Here are my specs:

Windows XP & 98
Celeron 2 850
64mb Geforce 2 MX 400 (28.32 drivers)
128mb SDRAM
Normal SB 128 soundcard
12.3gig h/d
8gig h/d

It worked fine before, it works in 98 but just xp is the problem. Is
everyone running it with the latest detonator drivers?

Beside what Dave asked, in Windows XP, check to make sure you have not disabled Indexing.  Some game (and other programs) flat will not run without Indexing enabled.  There are a couple web sites which are recommending turning Indexing off, and that's a big mistake.

F1 2001 Crashes on startup in XP

You need to be in an account with Administrator rights, not "the" Administrator account, then go into Control Panel/Administrative Tools icon.  Click on Computer Management, and on the Action menu in Computer Management, click Help.  On the Contents tab, open the tree for Indexing Service.  It'll give you complete details.
