Is that the core.ini file or the core.ini.sample file? GPL reads the file
without sample in the name. I installed the Microsoft wheel yesterday, no
problem. Come to think of it, one problem: if I first play GP2, a boot is
needed to get ff in GPL (and in control panel as well).

Outlook Express had a nice feature showing only replies to one's own posts.
So no need to send email copies.

You have to rename the core.ini.sample to core.ini. It works fine.

Also note that Windows in its default state hides known extensions;
meaning it will show core.ini.sample as core.ini.
Great default, huh?! ;-) A real Mac-ish mistake...

Hmmm... Mac OS does'nt use, or hide, filename extensions.
As opposed to that abomination of an OS, Win 95/98, on the Mac OS you
have WYSIWIN. (What You See Is What It's Named  :-)

A disk with 1 file still contains about 5 files when you really look
at it. Resource forks, desktop settings, the lot.
Other than that, I like extensions, since I get these files named
'This is 'n 1+2 test'. And God only knows what kind of file it is. Is
every Mac file structured then like an AIFF file?
Besides, the character a lot of Maccies use are soooo illegal on other
OS's.
Ah well... 'nough said.

Yeah, Desktop files are hidden. So is any file with the Hidden
attribute set, of course. Not like Windows, where files can be hidden
according to their extension AND/OR attribute.

Uhmm... How are AIFF files structured?

Mac OS allows the backslash char "\" in filenames, which is a Bad
Thing in DOS/Windows, yes. Not a problem really, once you know it...
The colon ":" is used for path delimiter in MacOS. In fact, the colon
is the ONLY char not allowed in filenames on the Mac OS.

P.S. Are we getting WAY off topic or what?

...

Yes, I know, and it still is one of the first things that get switched
when I install a new Windows.

FORM...
Chunks which sizes are known (stored next to the chunk ID). This way
you can skip things if you don't handle them. FORM ILBM for example is
an interleaved bitmap format, more used by the Amiga. But the format
is so extensible that I have used it on many occasions for files that
had nothing to do with Mac or Amiga.
Very flexible. Though ofcourse, once you get to use the more obscure
features (nested FORMs) most programs don't read it correctly anymore.

The slash and backslash char are a bad thing on anything but the Mac
nowadays. Reason for the Mac to reject it too, because most Macs are
part of the Internet one way of the other.
The colon is used for several different things too. They should
standardize that. Perhaps the http://www format already does. The URL.
I use a kind of ASSIGN (from the Amiga) on my Unix boxes;
HOME:tmp/myfile denotes $HOME/tmp/myfile. Makes it easier to avoid
shell expansion before the string gets passed through.
I always advise to use only a-z, A-Z, 0-9 , and _ for filenames.
I have in my little room here multiple SGI/Unix boxes, a PC, a
Unixware box, an Amiga. No Mac. But it makes you cross-platform aware.

Quite! ;-)
