and rumbled

More frightening to my mind is the following (taken from the spec list at
http://www.racesimcentral.net/)

 Super-smooth 16 fps on PC.

Not only does it not mention under which configuration it was, I really hope
that it is a joke.

IRC - No In-Car View?

The soon to be released International Rally Championship will have no
in-car view. I saw this mentioned in a previous post but could not believe
it, so I went to Europress(the developers) web site, and there in the
Latest News section(http://www.racesimcentral.net/), it
states the following:

"NO IN-CAR VIEW
That's right! No In-Car view, the memory that would have been used by this
view has been used to give more detail to trackside."

For any sim, and even the most arcadey of the arcade racers, there is
usually some kind of in-car***pit type view. The reason that this is most
disappointing for me to hear is that the original Rally Championship had a
very good in-car view. In fact, it was one of the cooler features of that
game, especially driving in inclement weather. You could see rain and snow
flakes fall on the windshield and have to use your windshiled wipers to see
clearly. One of the more "sim" features of an otherwise arcade type game. I
wonder if this could have anything to do with the infamous 3DFX  2D***pit
implementation issue? ;)

That does look scary! I know that they arent talking about the
3dfx version because I have been hearing from Europress and someone else

that had reviewed the game and they stated that the game was cruzing
along at 70 fps w/3dfx!! That 16 fps that they were talking about must
be on a super low end machine because on my P200 the demo flys along
ALOT quicker than 16 fps and my P200/Monster3D isnt this most
mind-boggling system to date. Take it easy...........

Demo is good on my P166 w/ 32meg, too.  The demo has an "In car view", but
not a *dashboard* view.  It has the typical open screen with a couple of
guages inserted.  Very disappointing news.  The dashboard view was a
highlight of the first game.

Wow!, if this is indeed true and they don't have an incar view it means
they won't be getting my money.

How can Euroexpress underestimate the need for an incar view like that?
Another sequel to a great game that gives up what made the original great
in order to supply more eyecandy to please the arcade crowd... reminiscent
of NFS2 ... what a disapointment.

By the way the "infamous" 3dfx 2D***pit implementation issue was debunked
a long time ago, so they better have another excuse other than the memory
issue. Personally***giving the memory to more trackside detail, I think
most of us would rather have the driving view, maybe they can provide a toggle
to allow us to pick driving view -vs- trackside detail.

I will not buy this if they don't have a driving view, already went through
the same experience with Psygnosis Formula 1, I returned it.

Cheers.
