Well, It was a promising sim, but as I don't drive my real car sitting on
the bonnet, so I won't drive a racing sim! Back to GPL!

PSCR: No In-car view!!

by Arthur Axelra » Tue, 03 Nov 1998 04:00:00

I went to visit Image Space Inc. yesterday, PSCR is amazing! All my thoughts
about it are on my site under NEWS, take a look at what I think. Some new
sceenshots are up too, there big though and take a while to load.
Its true PSCR has no in-car view, they took it out cause the one they had
looked bad at higher resolutions. They also have the auto pit feature, I let
them know sim racers wouldn't like these features. Send email to them asking
them to add these features and they will listen. Its there first racing sim
and I think they've done a hell of a job. You must remember this isn't
Papyrus with some 50-100 people and 8 years of sim racing experience. Theres
only like some 7 or 8 guys working at ISI. And its there first sim, they'll
make mistakes. For a sim guy the no in-car view and auto pit are mistakes.
But don't let those features discourage you from checking this sim out, it
does some really cool things. Physics are very good, just look at the
screenshot of me spinning the Mercedes CLK-GTR round and round (my Alex
Zandardi impression hehehe). Obviously the graphics are to die for. AI is
very good!!!!! Features like night racing, long endurance races, rain make
this one stand out, though with rain its not actually raining but the track
is wet. They said they couldn't make rain look good so they just made the
track look wet, they even experimented with puddles but it didn't work out.
They thought about a 3d virtual in car view, but they said this would really
push back PSCR and one would need a really powerful system to run it. If
things go good expect in car view in sequal. There also re-doing the demo to
add in all new features, demo track will be Limerock, demo will also have
network/internet support in there. Should be out in a few weeks. They still
plan on this sim coming out by xmas. It seemed pretty finished besides a few
tweaks they were doing to some of the AI cars and still working on TCP/IP to
improve internet play.

PSCR: No In-car view!!

Mmms...first, considering the # of cars in the "game", they'd have to have
more than 1***pit anyways.

Puddles, rain...mmms, gee thats why Papyrus didnt do rain.

Is AI based on best line? Or have they gone beyond that? "very good!!!!"
doesnt say nothing....

PSCR: No In-car view!!

by Arthur Axelra » Wed, 04 Nov 1998 04:00:00

All the AI for all the cars weren't done yet, but the ones which were seemed
very smart. The time I made that pass on the AI, first time I went wide and
AI cut back to inside and he took back the spot, 2nd time I made the move
and didn't go wide and AI had to backoff or cause accident and he backed
off. AI wont let you pass in places were a real driver is not gonna let you
pass. There fast on the straights, and under braking. My best bet in passing
was to get a good run on the last turn, draft, brake deep into corner, side
by side and force them to backoff. Though I mostly just raced with 1 other
car. They told me 1 car usually doesnt make random mistakes on there own.
But when more AI cars race opportunity for passing is better, cause AI in
front blocks 2nd AI car which has to back off and you can get an easier run
on him. AI has to be good cause with GT3, GT2, and GT1 classes all racing
together they don't want GT1 cars to drive into the back of GT3 cars.
Passing should be very interesting with this situation.
