Driver, in-car view

Hello,

I tried to search for this question on www.deja.com before asking here, but I
couldn't find anything.

Is there a in-car view in Driver ? I really can't relate to drive a car looking
at it from behind.

Thanks for any answer

Yes there is.  If you go to the options you'll see the joystick mapping
screen.  Change the viewchange to a button and that's it.

Great, thanks. The reason I asked was that I wouldn't buy it if it wasn't any
in-car view.

It is a bonnet view rather than true in-car BTW

There is a 'behind the car' view, a 'bonnet' view and a 'road only' view. The
first is most playable, because the second becomes unplayable after 1 accident
(you can't see the road anymore because the view os blocked by the messed up hood)
and the third is MUCH too close too the ground (as if you are a little mouse). So
their is definitely NO real in-car view with a dashboard and so on.

The 'bonnet' being the hood of the car, for any non-Euro readers ;)

Great question!!

I was at Electronics Boutique this weekend (while picking up AOE2) and
was looking at the Driver box, and none of the screenshots showed any
in-car views so I didn't bother picking it up, no auto sims without
***pit views for me.

So I was wondering the same thing.

Also if anyone has picked up Driver and played I76, how does it compare?

I76 was a favorite of mine, and reading the driver box, Driver looked like a
similar story driven (excuse the pun) auto sim.

Might still pick this one up if it turns out to have***pit view.

Seeyas on the track.

As you've probably read in other posts, no, there is no real***pit view. I
was also annoyed by this when I tried the demo - in every other driving
game/sim I just can't get a decent feel for the car behaviour unless I'm
"inside" and my lap times are even worse than usual <g>. However in Driver I
quickly got used to the chase view. This is probably partly due to the
simplistic steering control, but mostly due to the fun of watching the
over-the-top antics of your car powersliding, bouncing off the roofs of
other vehicles, etc.

I also played I76 and enjoyed it more than Driver. It had stronger
characterizations and storyline. Despite the cut scenes in Driver trying to
make the storyline sound very dramatic, the driving action of both your car
and the cops is hilarious. (OK, I'm easily amused.) That's why I always
think "Blues Brothers" when I play it.

Thanks bean I'll give the demo a look.

I'm looking forward to I82 hopefully it will be out for X-Mas.

I76 online was a blast until people figured how to cheat the damage and
drive the tanks and all.

Yes I think I agree, I dowloaded the Driver demo to get a feel and it seems
pretty fun, the action of the car looks pretty good even from behind
and the hood view is not so bad, I really wish I could get a***pit
view with gauges etc. but the hood view will do for now, I'll play with
the demo for a few days and see if it peaks my interest enough to buy
the full one.

You're not the only one easily amused by I76 I guess :-)

I76 was a classic for me too, that storyline was great with Taurus' comments
and the dumb comments by scooter or whatever his name was. Also done
very stylish overall feel to the artwork.

The driving model was just realistic enough to keep my interest and of course
who has never wished they had machine guns and rocket launchers mounted on
their hood or roof when dealing with a particularly *** other driver.

Very fun.

Yeah, very dissapointing.

It's an arcade like view, with no dash or anything :(
