DDHELP causes problem in GPL

I have one remaining problem with GPL
Most times when I exit GPL, I get an illegal operation, and
can't restart the game. The error indicates that ddhelp caused
the problem (is this a DirectX file?). I'm going to try a reinstall
of DX8.0, any other suggestions ?

I had the same problem but it had NOTHING to do with direct X in my case.
After installing other nvidia-drivers, all was fine...

When I had the problem I was using the default Asus-drivers that came with
my geforce card...
After removing them (IMPORTANT STEP - don't forget to change resolution to
640*480 before removal) and replacing them with the general GeForce
Detonator-drivers at nvidia.com, all was well...

Hope this helps, but I fear you already tried that ...

I was actually using the Asus driver, which is about 2 years old and
a little mouldy.
The nvidia detonator driver seems to have cleared this up.
