Help... which Geforce 3 should I get?

by Plowbo » Wed, 27 Feb 2002 00:50:11

Steve,

I been researching the same information and I have gathered that the best 3
cards are produced by Hercules, ASUS, and Visiontek.

I keep stumbling upon the same conclusions made in march's Maximum PC
where they shootout a 3 card matchup of the "there top pick ti500 cards.
They recommend the visiontek, only because it was cheapest and the
benchmarks were soo very close to each other.  the model was the VISIONTEK
XTASY 6964
part o fthe reason it is cheaper is it isnt bundled with some crappy game...
great idea.

PS the geforce 4 ti 4600 and the 4400 is out or will be by end of the month,
and I expect price chopping soon

Hi!

Get a Gainward GF3 Ti200 instead. It overclocks to Ti500 levels without
problems.

I'd also have to agree with robban,   you could save some dough with a ti200
and overclock - tweak it up to or near stock 500 specs...  I have not read
much about overclocking the 500's though except a few getting like 5-10%
increases in clock speeds...  but you would save a hundred or more.

I haven't heard (read) much about gainward brand cards though, and I dont
know why.

You'd be stupid to buy a Geforce 3 right now. Wait a month for the GF Ti4200
to come out. That is, unless you enjoy paying $100 more for a 40% slower
card....

I have the Visiontek card because it was the cheaper one to buy. No
problems to report. They all perform on pretty much the same level so
they are all great cards.
