GPL Geforce Settings Help Please?

by Andy Stra » Fri, 09 Feb 2001 21:29:05

I have recently switched from my 533 MHz Celeron/Voodoo3-3000 to a 1.2
Ghz Athlon/ASUS V6800 Geforce DDR.

After applying the D3D patch and running GPL I haven't noticed that much
of a frame rate improvement. I'm running full eye-candy in (1280x1024-32
Bit) and I still lag to around 32 fps every now and again. I could run
the v3 in (1024x960-16 bit) at equivalent fps with a a lower mirror
refresh rate and a few details turned off (dirt, dust, etc). I was
hoping for 1600x1200!

Anyone got any advice on relevant settings/tweaks/core adjustments for
the GeForce, I'm running W2k Pro with the 6.47 drivers.

TIA

I also have an ASUS 6800 DDR.
At 1280x1024-32 you are over the fill rate for the board. Set it to
1280x1024-16 and you should be ok. The detail slider also makes a lot of
difference. I run with it in the middle.

I think your biggest gain will be from dropping the 32bit color down to
16bit.  Good Luck.

I agree. GPL only user 16bit anyway. Also make sure FSAA is off. You should
be able to set everything else in the DX display properties to max.

The only slowdown you should expect is at the start of a race. Set detail
slide to the middle and if necessary turn off bevelled tires. With your
hardware however you should be running at 36fps almost all the time.
