GPL and GeForce 256??? [help!]

by Anders » Tue, 22 Feb 2000 04:00:00

Hi,

tried to browse the group for this info, but my news server may have deleted
most of the older messages say older than a week or so.

Have been trying to get GPL to run properly on my new machine wich have a
4xAGP Nvidia GeForce 256 graphics card. I'm using GPL V1.201 UK patch and
the GL patch. I get bad flickering on my screen, not just the mirrors. Seems
to work fine when playing repalys though.....

I'm using Nvidia 4.12.01.0359 drivers

Any ideas on what needs to be done??

GPL and GeForce 256??? [help!]

Yo!

The crazy screen thing will be fixed if you upgrade to Nvidia Detonator 3.68
(not he beta's).
Yo!

In the OpenGL settinngs, you shold choose "Use block transfer". That will
fix the mirrors. It worked with my Geforce. BTW, I'm using Nvidia 3.68
reference drivers. No problem at all with these drivers. Recommended highly.

This was posted by Phil Lee a while ago:

You'll need to download the beta OpenGL patch which is available here:

http://www.papy.com/gpl/download.html

Whilst your there, you should also download the latest patch to get yourself
to version 1.2.0.1.

You will also need to add some lines to the core.ini file which is found in
the gpl folder (the same one as the main executable).  When I was using a
Riva TNT before upgrading to a V32000 I had to have the following in my
core.ini file:

[ Int Profile Values ]
value0 = OpenGL:TossHighestMip:0         ; do not change
value1 = OpenGL:MipFiltering:0                ; do not change
value2 = OpenGL:MirrorsEvery:0                ; do not change

[ OpenGL ]
TossHighestMip = 1                       ;
MipFiltering = 3                        ;
MirrorsEvery = 5                        ;

The readme file with the patch explains what each setting does.  There is
also a sample core.ini file.  With your better card you may be able to set
the mirror refresh rate to a higher frequency.

If you have a force feedback wheel add the following to core.ini to enable
force feedback:

[ Joy ]
allow_force_feedback = 1                ; Use FF if device has it
force_feedback_latency = 0.02        ; force feedback latency (secs)
force_feedback_damping = 5.0       ; force feedback damping coefficient
max_steering_torque = 250.000000        ; steering torque in N*in giving max
device force

The above are the settings I use with an LWFF.  Opionions differ on the best
settings.  Fiddle around until tou find one that suits.
