Has anyone tried GPL with one of the new cards featuring the new Ge
Force 256 chip from NVIDIA? I have a VooDoo3 2000 and will upgrade my
entire machine and have a few bucks I can spend on the latest and great
3-D card but run GPL almost exclusively. The obvious choice seems to be
the V3 3000 or 3500 but would hate to buy yesterday's technology when I
can afford today's but don't want to sacrifice GPL performance or
compatibility just to have the 'fastest' board. Any help greatly
appreciated.

I would upgrade your system, but keepyour V3 2k for now.  In about 2
or 3 months the next gen 3dfx cards will be available and those "should"
leapfrog the gewhiz.  Unless your are a tailgunner driver(shudder) the
tnt does not play nice with gpl.

I have a new Dell P-lll 600 with 256 megs of ram, sblive sound and a GeForce
card.  I got the Opengl patch for GPL and am getting 32-33 fps online and off,
in car view.  At the start of a race at a track like monza I am getting 22+
fps.  The main problem with the Geforce and GPL is the mirros.  They are in a
constant state of flashing.  I can make out other cars, but way too difficult.
Some people are using the new 3.53 drivers from NVIDIA to solve the problem,
but others like myself had very bad things happen when I tried to install them.
(video and sound problems).  On the whole its a good card and my son loves it
for playing QUAKE 3.  From what I have read and heard, the technology of the
Geforce is the new wave.  But in the end, I am going out tommorrow to buy a
Voodoo 2 card to go along with my Geforce.  Only $50.00 with rebate.  After
spending $2200.00 for the computer it's the least I can do.  Hope that helps,
and of course, just my opinion.

I have a Voodoo2 card right now and will never ever ever ever give it up. I
don't know why they stopped making the voodoo cards as add on ones. I'm
going to get a GForce card next month and run my voodoo2 with it. That way I
get the best of both worlds. If you're willing to fork out the cash for the
GForce then you might as well fork out the extra for a voodoo2 card too. I
agree, buy that voodoo2.

Perfect you guys. Appreciate the feedback. Will stick with VooDoo3 3000 in my new
system: PIII 500, 128 Ram, SB Live, 13 gig HD.

Hello Larry,

I have just upgraded to GeForce DDR earlier this month and I
still have my good o' V2 card. If you have read my earlier posts
on GeForce with GPL, getting the OpenGL beta patch and a few
minor tweaks, you will find GPL is still very enjoyable. It is still
a close call since V4/V5 would be announced in late Q1 next year and
since you still have a V3, I think it is pretty safe for your to keep
with it.

Heppy New Year.

Griffin.

I have a PIII 500 and I replaced my TNT with a GeForce (Guillemot 3D Prophet
SDR)

By chance, I kept my "old" VooDoo 2 12Mb !!

GPL doesnt run satisfactorily under OpenGL using the GeForce, as I get 32 to
36 fps***pit view with 19 cars on the track with my VooDoo.

Maybe a question of nVidia drivers....but what is the best way to spend
one's time: tweaking o GeForec or playing GPL ??

My choice is made. And yours ?
