GeForce graphics card settings

I have a GeForce Ti4200 and was wondering what settings I should tinker with
to up the frame rate fro my driving games.

I've read about anti-aliasing, bump mapping, ansitropic filtering,
anti-aliasing, and I am a bit confused. I take it some of these settings
actually need to be used to take the load off my processor (900 Duron)?

It seems others can be switched off if I want increased frame rates?

I just want to get my games running as quickly as possible, still with
trackside details, but smoother frame rate.

Are there any web sites with tips/anyone got any personal settings they use?

Your CPU is the real problem. If you motherboard will handle it Newegg has a
XP2100 for less the $150. Going from a duron you won't belive the
differance. Way more than any graphics card tweaks. Hell I'm thinking of
upping my XP1800 to one and I "only" have a GF3.

Download the Ge Force tweak util, it says it does not support the
newest drivers, but in the program you'll see fast settings, click
that and send it to tray, you pick up 12-20 fps in Nascar 2002

Oh no! I have installed the 30.82 drivers, and this utility doesn't support
29.42 or over!! Doh!! I guess I could reinstall the drivers but I had
problems with earlier drivers and my card, so i guess I'll have to wait for
the next version.

If you are out to adjust something specific, then there is also nvHardPage.

I prefer RefreshForce 1.1 for the Refresh Rate fix.  It simply works, simply
:)  It's the first one I've found that effectively fixes the problem in ALL
installations.

The rest have been a crap-shoot.

There's a (DirectX only) refresh rate fix built into the 40.41 drivers.
When you add the coolbits registry entry, instead of giving it a value of 3,
make it's value FFFFFFFF.

Don't forget all the WARNING: BACK UP YOUR REGISTRY stuff.

I tried this, but when I clicked on FAST it seemed to ask me to select
a FAST file, or something along those lines... it was a while ago.

There must be something wrong with the settings I'm using, because on
my 1.8GB with 512MB RAM and a GeForce3 card, I'm receiving frame rates
of around 18fps with most of the details turned down, and
anti-aliasing either switched to OFF, or just x2.

Any ideas?

I know what you mean. I tried Deus Ex (not motor sim, but I wanted to
compare it with GPL) and at 1024x786x32 I was getting a frame rate of 4fps!!
This is far worse than when I had my TNT2 card.
I'm sure its the drivers or settings, but the  GeForceTi4200 is no where
near the card I thought it would be - something must be very wrong...

There is also one built into Windows XP SP1.

Direct3D has never been a problem anyway.  All you have to do is run DXDiag
and use the over-ride option.

OpenGL is the real issue.  Like many, I run OpenGL whenever it's available
for use.

The only fix for those is RefreshForce or a similar utility.

Then again, it doesn't suprise me that Microsoft ignores OpenGL and instead
fixes Direct3D only in XP SP1.

You are correct.  Something is very wrong.

With an AMD Athlon XP1800+ and a GeForce 4 Ti4400 card, I'm well over 100fps
in testing at most tracks, and I have ALL options maxed out running at
1280X1024X16.

Even with the previous GeForce Ti500 I was well into the 80's.

Make sure you have Anistropic turned OFF in the game as well as in the
drivers.

Make sure you have verticle sync disabled.

Use OpenGL.  It's faster than Direct3D, and I personally think the graphics
are better.
