F1 2001 & Voodoo 5500?

F1 2001 & Voodoo 5500?

by Ian Riche » Sat, 09 Feb 2002 20:45:51

Given the release of the GT Mod V2, and my general dissatisfaction
with GP3, I'm sorely tempted to get F1 2001.

However, I've seen a number of posts here from people who are very
dissatisfied with its performance on V5 5500 cards, such as I have.

Is anyone out there happy with the performance on a V5?  My CPU is an
Athlon XP 1700+

Also, there seems to be no demo of F1 2001.  Is the F1 2000 CS demo
"close enough" to allow me to do a good evaluation of how it runs on
my machine?

Thanks for any info...

the 8500 was faster, but the 5500 was certainly playable. I think Suzuka
gave the worst frame rates. They were between 40 and 60 fps .

  I too have a V5 5500, but I haven't tried F1 2001 yet.  I would suspect
that it taxes the V5 even more than CS.  While I'm sure you can lower the
graphic levels quite a-bit, you still won't get the framerate that a newer
card could provide.  You do have a fairly stout cpu, however, and that
should hopefully provide some added fps.  F1 2001 is due to be replaced in
about two months, you will most likely see the price of 2001 drop to at
least $19 (us) shortly, it's been on sale at that price several times
recently.  It might drop further still when 2002 is released.

I have _exactly_ the same CPU as you do and a V5500.  It runs just fine,
thank you.  Maybe not quite as pretty as the latest GeForce or Radeon,
but is plenty playable.....  BB had it on sale a few weeks ago for
$19.99, and I think you should be able to find it for $29.99 most any
time.  Definitely worthwhile, especially now with the GT Mod.
