I currently have a Celeron 466 in one machine and a Duron 850 in my
other machine. The Duron very stable and I have never had a
compatibility problem. In fact I've never come across anyone who
could actually produce a compatibility problem for an AMD product. At
least not in the last few years.
Sounds like you have been listening to a lot of Intel propaganda.

I just recently replaced every box in my house. Until that time I hadn't
used any CPU other than Intel for over a decade. There isn't an Intel CPU in
my house at the moment. I got more bang for my buck, with greater speed and
stability, from AMD.
If we wern't talking a *** machine here I might feel otherwise. An Intel
board with integrated sound and video is a pretty sweet system for running
business machine.
If we're talking GPL as the primary app to optimize for I don't think
there's any question that you'll get the best performance from the AMD
though.

Go back and read the question again. You are wrong.

Well I was hoping that you can enlighten me and everyone in the group.
btw my quick search of Deja indicated that a most compatibility
problems had nothing to do with the chip but had to do with the
motherboard. Morale of the story? Don't go cheap on the motherboard.
