Anyone running a P4 1.8 Ghz or higher system and GPL

by Murchma » Wed, 06 Feb 2002 23:08:50

Just got a new Dell with a P4 1.8 Ghz, 512 MB or Rambus RAM, GF3 TI 500,
turtle beach sound card, and Windows XP Pro. I installed GPL with all the
patch including the CPU fix. The came slows way done and is undrivable. If I
run it without the CPU patch everything is find but I can do laps around the
AI and do unreal times.

Is anyone else having problem running GPL on a similar system? I don't
thinks it's XP since I run it on the my PIII 1 Ghz with no problems.

Thanks,

Murchman

By 'all the patches' do you mean you have patched GPL to version 1.2 AND
installed the D3d patch?  ANd then, which 3d option did you choose when you
installed GPL?  Software(it should look UGLY), Glide(it shouldn't work at
all with your hardware), OpenGL(requires yet another patch) or
DirectX(D3d)??

1.2, D3D, CPU fix, disconnect fix. I run it using D3D with both the default
core.ini and the suggested core.ini for D3D.

I also have a AMD XP 1800 system with the same Video card and don't have the
problem and I set them both up the same way. So I am thinking that it's
either a P4 problem and Rambus or I got a bad system from Dell.

It wouldn't suprise me if you got a faulty system, as many as they sell,
some must slip through.  does XP have anything like dxsetup for the win9x's?
Check and see if your card tests properly.  Also find the Mad Onion Site and
download and run their benchmarking software, see if your results are
similar to those with systems comparable.
good luck

Thanks I haven't run 3dmark yet on the system. As long as I know other
people are running gpl on a P4 system with success then I know it has to be
a system problem.

Without the CPU patch GPL runs 'fast'. I've run it on a 1.7 and 2.2 OK. Have
you checked your GF3 drivers.

Andi.

Yes I tried different version fresh install of windows with different
version. I tried different video cards. Bossily I just needed to know if
anyone else was running GPL with the P4's cause I really do think I have a
system problem.

Certainly sounds like it now. Have you run 3DMark2001 yet, that should
stress the system a bit I would expect to see around 7000, let us know how
you get on. GPL hasn't been a problem on either of my P4's though.

Andi.

Anyone running a P4 1.8 Ghz or higher system and GPL

by Marc Collin » Thu, 07 Feb 2002 13:26:10

It "should" run great on that system.  Nothing that rings alarm bells and it
certainly isn't the P4 or the Rambus memory causing any problems if you have
the fastcpu fix.

What precisely are the other differences between the systems/drivers?

Thanks guys for the info, I just got Dell to take this one back and send me
a new one. 3dmark 2001 ran fine I got a 7858 score on it, so I am totally
clueless on what the problem is.
