(GPL) Autoexec and Config

In my pursuit of more resources I've tinkered with my BIOS setting.
Just before that I did a benchmark with everything on and sound all the
way to the right and 20 AI and in the back of the field in the pits at
WGI.  I got 6.0 - 6.2 fps.  Then I went and edited the BIOS and got 12.8
- 12.9 fps.  What a difference!

I did notice that I got a BIG improvement in frame rate when I
placed the sounds heard slider down to 1/2.  I went from that 12 fps to
24 fps. then I put the slider all the way to the left and I got 32 fps.
Adjusting the graphics didn't take as much resources as the sound did as
I only got an added 5fps after turning most everything off and at the
lowest res.  (after I left the pits I got a steady 36fps with 1/2 the
graphics on).

I'm wondering if GPL would use the Autoexec.bat and/or Config.sys
commands.  Currently both of these files are empty.

Sound card = SB AWE Gold w/8 meg ram.
Video card = Creative Blaster Voodoo2 w/12 meg ram
(3d card is a Diamond Stealth 2000)
Mouse = Guineas scroll mouse

It's been like a 1000 years since I touched these files in any of my
computers. So, if I could get more for GPL what would the command lines
be?

I think that the frame rate hit is because your sound card uses the
ISA bus and GPL has to fire a lot of data down to it.  Not only are
the bus transfers slow but the CPU gets held up whilst Direct Sound
(part of DirectX) is doing this.

Ideally you should get a PCI card as I think they can take control of
the bus for a DMA transfer.  I have mine built into the motherboard,
but I think the the SB Live that people a raving about is a PCI card.
I think that is probably why they are raving about it.
