NASCAR autoexec and config HERE!

by jk.. » Thu, 22 Jun 1995 04:00:00

Ok folks, here is my autoexec.bat and config.sys.  Now I run DOS 6.2 and have
about 618 free memory (conventional) for loading games.  Let me also say that
ALL COMPUTERS ARE NOT CREATED EQUAL!!!!!!!
This setup will not work for all systems, but you are welcome to try it, and if it
blows up, then...

autoexec.bat

*       SET BLASTER = A220 I7 D1 T4
*       SET SOUND = C:\MMPRO
*       PROMPT $p$g
*       SET PATH=C:\;C:\WINDOWS;C:\DOS;
*       SET TEMP=C:\DOS
*       LH /L:1,56928 C:\DOS\MOUSE
        CHOICE /C:WG (W)INDOWS, (G)AMES
        IF ERRORLEVEL 2 GOTO GAMES
        CALL C:\DOS\AUTO.BAT
        :GAMES

config.sys

        [MENU]
        MENUITEM = FULL_CONF,FULL CONFIGURATION WITH WINDOWS
        MENUITEM = GAME_CONF,GAME CONFIGURATION
        MENUITEM = NO_EMM,NO MEMORY MANAGER

        [FULL_CONF]
        DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
        DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE RAM HIGHSCAN
        BUFFERS=15
        FILES=50
        DOS=UMB
        LASTDRIVE=E
        DEVICE=C:\DOS\SETVER.EXE
        DOS=HIGH
        SHELL=C:\DOS\COMMAND.COM C:\DOS /P /E:512

        [GAME_CONF]
*       DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
*       DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE RAM D=64
*       FILES=30
*       DOS=HIGH,UMB

        [NO_EMM]
        DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
        DOS=HIGH,UMB

auto.bat  (this file resides in the DOS directory)

        LH /L:0;1,45488 /S C:\DOS\SMARTDRV
        LH /L:1,6384 C:\DOS\DOSKEY
        LH /L:1,13984 C:\DOS\SHARE.EXE /L:500
        WIN

As you can see, what this does is turn the config.sys into a "menu" where you
can select what way you want your computer to configure the memory.  You
must have DOS 6.0 at LEAST to be able to do this (for you DOS 5 users, you
will have to make a boot disk using the lines with the * in front).  As well, the
autoexec.bat when it steps through will ask you whether you want to run Windows
or not...select "n" for games, of course.  If you DO want Windows, it then calls
"auto.bat" in the dos directory for more configuration before loading Windows.
What does all this mean?  You won't need a boot disk ever again, and when you
boot up you can choose whether or not you want games or Windows.  Don't
use the "NO_EMM" setting unless a game specifically will not run with it.
Anyhow, good luck...who said us computer geeks are good-4-nothing....:)
