GPL/Voodoo2 config?

GPL/Voodoo2 config?

by Chuck Anderse » Wed, 05 Aug 1998 04:00:00

I've been runing GPL on a Intense3d(rendition v1k) with no problems.

I've been able to borrow a Diamond Monster3d-II (voodoo2 8mb)
from a friend for a few days to see the performance on GPL.
Whenever I have a "texture" option turned on, I get strange
flashing for that feature (e.g. track texture, wall texture,
etc), if I turn it off, all is well, but I lose that feature.

device-mgr/sysinfo shows "4.10.01.0200" for all drivers,
which is from the install cdrom. If I try to install
latest drivers from diamondmm (4.10.01.0201), I get a a message
"selected location does not contain an updated driver" and driver
201 will not install.  I don't know if the "flashing" problem is
related to not having the latest driver or not.

Any ideas? Chuck

BTW, any other settings for the voodoo2, things look really washed
out as compared to the rendition-verite-v1k. Gotta believe it's a
config thing, the $30 card looks much better than the $230 card. :)

The 4.10.01.0201 driver will fix the texture problems that you are seeing. I
have the same card and had missing patches of pavement, etc. with the install
cdrom driver. I remember the same problems with the install- I recomend you try
the driver install again and when you get the "selected location..." message
use the brouse and Win 95 find to locate the file.

You need the generic 3dfx drivers from www.3dfx.com

That was the answer, thanks Byron!  Wow, now I see what everyone
is so e***d about, the rendition-v1k makes it a real battle
to handle. I can actually go more than 2 laps now without shift/r,
knew I couldn't be that bad. :)  If anyone is still trying to
run GPL on a lowend video card, believe me, you'll be amazed at the
difference.
