There was a thread or two on this right after GPL was released, but I didn't
pay a lot of attention because (although annoying) I wasn't driving the Ferrari
very often. I noticed what Skip is describing, too ...
To me, it sounds like listening to an old, dirty LP. (Anybody old enough to
remember that technology?) There are hisses, clicks, pops and other
high-frequencly noise that have nothing to do with the inherent, distinctive
sound of the engine -- that wonderful, raucous, two-toned wail.
I notice just traces of this in a couple of the other engine sounds, but as you
wind them up, the "noise" disappears in the increased volume of the engine. In
the Ferrari, I can hear hiss and clicks even when the engine is red-lined.
I want to recall that someone clever succeeded in "cleaning up" the .wav, but I
now don't remember who or where. Does anybody out there recall? It really is
a shame that the coolest engine sound is marred with this noise, and like Skip,
I'd really love a solution.
Incidentally, I have a Gateway, with ENSONIQ AudioPCI and Boston Acoustics
speakers with powered sub-woofer -- I don't have a similar problem with other
.wav files or music for that matter.
Thanks!
