GPL: Ferrari sound after carsound-patch

by Rolf Weseman » Wed, 11 Aug 1999 04:00:00

I prefere the best originality and have my fun, getting the mostly realistic
results (so long the game will run with perfect speed :-)) )

After the patch of gpl 1.1 with carsound (each car has its own sound) I
found some of the new sounds very high (p.e. the ferrari sounds not so
well). I tried to change all the .wav's, I found in the net, but the before
carsound result wasn't to get.

The results of the other cars is now ok, but my Ferrari.... I loved the
sound

Any help?

In the app.ini file in your gpl folder is a key SampleRPM = 5200. I think it
defines the RPM at which the original pitch of the .wav file is used. If you
make it higher the sounds should go lower. But I don't know, if it works
with the carsound patch and if so it would change the pitch of all sounds,
not just the Ferrari's.

To get the original Papyrus Ferrari sound after installing the CarSound
patch do this:

1. Find the Pack/Unpack utility somewhere.  At least some soundpacks with
built-in installers include it.  I can mail it to you, if you can't find it.

2. Copy the original sound.dat from your CD, unpack it ("unpack.exe
sound.dat") and you get a lot of wav files.

3. Rename the ferrari.wav to fer.wav.
