You have it already. Unpack it from the sound.dat and rename it to
fer.wav.

I would like to restore that original Ferrari sound too!  I know there used to be a
pack/unpack utility for data files, but lately I can't find it.  Does anyone know
where that is, and how do you use it?  Any other way to get that original sound,
without doing a complete reinstall and losing all the other good sounds that I use
via Carsound?

I found out by trial and payer that if you put your unedited copy of
gpl.exe back into the gpl folder the old ferrari sound is back but you
can still have changed sounds for other cars

Many good solutions here, but the easiest of all was sent to me by Alison
Hine (The Shredding Eagle Woman), at her site she has her latest collection
of sounds--the original ferrari wave is there, renamed as "eag.wave"--all
you have to do is download it and rename it as "fer.wave".  Thanks to
Alison and Nigel-the-guy who took time to answer my e-mail and get the
howling red beast echoing thru my imagination again...
