Help me with video card please!!!

by James O. Blevins Jr » Thu, 09 Apr 1998 04:00:00

I'm considering purchasing a Dell PII 333 system and wondering about how
to address the video card question.  I'm planning to add a CL Blaster 3d
Voodoo2 w/probably 8mb of RAM.

The cards that Dell offer are the

1) 4MB STB nVidia AGP Card
2) Diamond Permedia 2, 8MB AGP 3D Card

I don't know if either of these cards does 3dfx acceleration or not  and
whether I'm gaining anything with either of them other that to have a
place to plug the Voodoo card.

Any help appreciated.

Hmm, I currently have the same STB card as yours, and it's pretty neat.  60+
fps in Quake2.  OpenGL support.  One of the top D3D speed (probably higher
than Voodoo-based cards).

With the addition of your 3dfx card, it's a power *** machine.  You will
be able to get awesome framerate in every game, except you won't be able to
run rendition version of some titles.

Never heard reports about the Permidia2, but some of my friends said it's a
good all-around card, but a little bit less powerful than the STB.  Better
2d with the Permidia AFAIK.
