GPL and dual V2?

Did you racing in 800x600 and have problems?  I have a fairly similar setup
and
changing resolutions and graphics options makes no difference in
framerate - at least not noticeable, not even with the framerate
counter on.

GPL and dual V2?

I have a 200 mhz MMX with Voodoo 1 (a Monster 3D). The GPL frame rate is
on the low end of playable on the Ring with no AI cars at 24 - 32 fps at
512x... resolution. The frame rate at Watkins with 5 or more AI cars is
abysmal, about 12 or to mid-***s, so I just parked it an watched Jim
Clark lead the practice laps. I almost reached for the Dramamine
watching the replays at 800x600 with all details turned on; it was
gorgeous, but would have caused problems driving.

The question is will dual Voodoo 2's improve my situation? I'm guessing
not, and a Dell 450 mhz is in my future soon. Has anyone tried it and
found otherwise?

Thanks.

Michael.

Nope. Even a single Voodoo2 really needs the CPU power of the high end P2s
anyways.

You need a fast CPU for this game. The V2 or two V2's wont be much faster
with your P200 but on a PII 450 it should run great. Go here for more info:

GEEZ-It wasn't that long ago that 20 fps was considered great.

:) I wasn't complaining; just looking for ways to improve the situation.
Rock steady with a full AI field would be more than nice. Eye candy is a
nice option, not to mention useful for navigation and SA at the Ring.

Yep 20 was just about it before accelerated 3D cards came along, then we
got spoiled.  I would think that a Rendition v2200 card would give
better framer rates with a 200 mhz MMX.

I have to agree. I have a 200mmx, 64 mg ram with a monster I and a Stealth II
2100 rendition card. Running GPL with 3dfx gives me framerates of 28 - 36 in
practice at 640x480. At the same resolution with the rendition card I get a
fairly steady 36. When I get in a race the 3dfx card maxes out at 25  with 5
cars. With the rendition I get 32 - 36 most of the time, (except by the pits)
and only fall to 25 - 28 when passing or being passed. This is very playable.
On starts I the bottom goes to about 10 fps but only for a short period. I
found starting in chase view brings this up to the mid ***s.

I'm wondering if going to the Thiller 8 mg. will make any difference. Anyone
have any thoughts?

By the way I just turned my best lap at the Glen. 108.06. God I love this game.
