GPL demo sound

I have downloaded and installed the GPL demo, but the sound isn't
working properly - it sounds like something the PC speaker would make.
It is all broken up and sounds "beepy" rather tha any proper sampled
race car sounds.

The graphics look ok, so I don't think the speed of the PC is a problem.

Any ideas ?  Is the sound in any way configurable (other through the
menus) ?   Or is it a case of downloading the latest drivers, etc...
(using DirectX 6.0 Windows 98) ?

Sounds like you have gotten hold of the 1st version of the demo, that
one didn't fair too well in Win98 for most people, I think there was a
"2nd edition" though, don't ask me for version numbers and such, this is
taken from memory, and that aint what it used to be :-)

I remeber having problems with the demo and I believe sound was a major one
which I couldn't fix.  The problem does not exist in the Released version of
GPL
