GPL demo: carbled sounds! HELP!

by Hena Hakkane » Wed, 08 Apr 1998 04:00:00

Hi,

My system is as follows:

 P2/300 with 440LX chip set (MSI-6111 motherboard)
 64MB SDRAM
Matrox Millennium II w/ 4BM WRAM
 Flash3D Voodoo card
 SB AWE32 (non-PnP)

ie. pretty basic stuff. Operating system used is Win98 Release Candidate 0.

My system works fine in other 3Dfx based games like Uprising, Ultimate Race
Pro, N2 etc.
I've tried to install the game now three times but the result is always the
same: carbled sounds! They are worse than in my trusty old C64! I tried
installing Creative drivers for Win95 instead of using the ones that came
with Win98 to no avail. The game is unplayable! The sound (or .WAV) check
during installation works, like any other sounds in my system.

Please help! I'm dying to play this demo!!

Best regards,
Henrikki H?kk?nen

Same thing here, win98 build 1691. And this is the ONLY game or
program or application or anything that has not run correctly under
win98. BTW you can play the game by changing the sound values to 0 in
the options.ini file, although there will be no sound.

From what I hear the rendition and 3dfx drivers don't work with it.
Way to go MS!

Everything else that I have runs well on Win98 Beta....including all of
my Voodoo Games... Glide, OpenGL and Direct 3d...

Really feels like the way the Game talks to the soundcard may be the
heart of the problem.

Hi!

Does this matter?  Why do all my other games run perfect, but gpl
doesn't? I know it's a demo, but the other games were written way before
win98......

Some of my games:
NBA'97&'98, NHL'97&'98, Fifa '98
indycar2(cart2), nascar1
F1 Racing Simulation
Toca Touring Car
etc,etc

Evrything is legal including the win98 bets :-)

Bart!

Well you might want to consider what the Beta in Beta versions of
software means.  First, its not complete and changes are to come.
Second, its not complete and changes are to come.  Third, its not
complete, changes, additions, fixes, driver updates, etc. are all to
come.  Fourth, developers use betas to get everything in order for when
the certified release is released because, the Beta is not complete,
changes are to be made and are to come.

And the final reason is keep trying hard, don't listen to the people who say
that cpr is not possible to play on win98 beta. That is bs..., I have ran it
in the very un stable version build 1650, and yet it works. And I am getting
build 1721.2, and it's only gonna work better and better.

If you try hard enough, and look for the two minor glitched files in the
windows directory, your in a delieghtfull suprise.
