Help with GPL Demo Please !

by tmf2 » Wed, 30 Dec 1998 04:00:00

Switched to Win95 OSR2 from Win95a, now when I try to start
GPL in rendition mode the screen flickers twice and basically
does nothing else. When started using software (softdll.dll)
it brings up my ISP Dialup box. Any Ideas or similar
experiences ?

My system is:

Micron Millennia 166
64 MB EDO 60ns
Intergraph Intense 3D 100 Rendition card
Video mode at : 800x600 64k Hi Color  16bit

I'm using the Demo for hot lapping until I can afford
a new system.

Thanks Dennis

First I'd try downloading and installing the 1.0.0.0 demo.

The video card drivers that came with Win95 OSR2 probably do not include
RRedline (Rendition's software interface to their chipset, which GPL uses).
 I believe
http://archive.intergraph.com/bbs/consumer/reactor/viddrvrs/I3D3133.exe is
probably what you want, though I haven't tried this set of drivers myself.

To get rid of the dialup box when you start the demo, you can tell Windows
not to automatically connect to the Internet (I can never remember how to
do this).

Or, you can disable the demo's network code.  If you're using the original
demo, create a plain text file named gpl.ini in the same directory as
gpl.exe that contains these two lines...
[Profile]
disable_network=1
... and then start the demo using the command line
gpl -kpgpl.ini

If you're using the newer GPL demo, create a plain text file named core.ini
in the same directory as gpl.exe that contains these two lines..
[Communications]
disable_network=1
... and start the demo normally.

Thanks Randy, but no go I already had done the things you
suggested. Had the latest drivers already installed and tried
the suggestion to disable the networking, without success.
Maybe I should try the newest Demo where is it available?
I just don't understand this it worked fine in Win 95a,
I wonder if it is the Fat32 !

I don't remember the first part of this thread, but I have GPL working on Fat32
just fine...
