Euan,
on a Voodoo 2 in the same system prior installing the Geforce. Not only do
I find the Voodoo 2 graphics more crisp and pleasing to the eye, I maintain
36 FPS at full world detail and all features enabled. Using the original
D3D patch, I had to sacrifice detail to maintain 36 FPS, but even at the
same detail settings, the graphics appeared to be more blurry than the Glide
mode graphics of my Voodoo 2.
I haven't tried the new D3D patch that many are raving about, but in all
honesty, I don't see how I can improve on what I've got now. The ceiling is
the 36 FPS, not the graphics quality, IMO.
I also play Sports Car GT and once again, I find the Glide graphics far
superior to D3D in that game. So for those two games alone, the Voodoo 2
remains in my system. The beauty of it is that it can co-exist with the
Geforce 2 and take over only when it is called by a Glide application. You
can probably pick up a Voodoo 2 for a song nowdays. And one final note, the
Voodoo 2 is about 3 times faster than a Voodoo 1. Another reader has
pointed out to you that what you have in mind is in essence Voodoo 1
technology.
