Matt, in your situation you might want to lean towards the
Voodoo2...depends on what your current 2D/D3D card is. There's
some kind of patch deal involved with Quake2 on the Banshee, and
the V2 should be slightly faster. If I follow the posts right,
you might be limited to 800x600 in GPL with a single V2, tho.
However, it takes a 450-class Pentium II to run GPL at 1024x768
and still get max frame rate (still won't cut it on the grid).
Either the Banshee or the V2 will play the 3dfx stuff. The
Banshee is a good single-card solution for those on a budget as
it also does respectable Direct3D and very good 2D, but a Riva
TNT card with an SLI V2 setup still outruns just about
everything. in just about everything. Several games seem to
require a patch to live comfortably with the Banshee. The
Creative Labs Banshee is 90 bucks after rebate if I recall
correctly.
Oh... I upgraded from a V1 to a Banshee and saw about a 50%
increase in GPL FPS on a Celeron 300A running at 450.
