isdn.I suppose the question is..with two computers on a LAN can I get them
both into a GPL online race..on my 56k modem?
I have my doubts..but I can afford it.

have 2 PC here + cable modem, 1st thing you need to do is run
win proxy on the PC which has cable modem but...
In GPL you'll then have 2 TCP/IP to chose from:
the LAN IP and the one connected to the internet
you need 2 ethernet card on the same PC for the host, to do this, and
another ethernet card for the LAN client. If you use DUN (phone modem)
then only 1 ethernet card for each pc.
problem is since you need to chose either one of those 2 IP
to be the host , how could the other connection (let's say LAN) will
connect ? To my knowledge, it's impossible unless there's a trick that
i'm not aware of in GPL.
So basically with a config like that, what prevents to host on LAN and
internet at the same time is having 2 IP address in GPL, which you need
to chose from either those 2.
If someone somewhere has another way to do this (LAN + internet) in GPL
would be interesting to hear it.

Thanks Eric to let us know this option, didn't knew that
cheers

Firstly connect to the net.
Then host a race on both the IPX and TCP/IP protocols, making sure you
choose the internet TCP/IP, not the LAN one.
The LAN players can join on the IPX, net players on the LAN.
If you're doing it on VROC, bear in mind when you set the maximum number of
players on your server that LAN players need to be included in that number.
They will show up on VROC.
I successfully hosted a race for 4 connections across the LAN (plus myself!)
and one online connection simultaneously, with no apparent problems, with
the modem connected at 49333 bps.
Hope that helps

Agree with you Mike, did it tonite also
hosted on VROC and used the second pc to hook through IPX
works beautifully..
