Sim Racers,

at home I drive only GPL offline races with my offline PC, and at
the moment I am not planning any network update there.

But at my work office my computer was recently upgraded so that also
it could now handle the sims. And our LAN is directly connected to
the Internet...

When I work, I practically use only Linux, but Windows is also installed -
sometimes you need also that ...

A couple of questions:

1. The Windows is NT. Is there any hope of making GPL work there?
Or is it possible to use any racing sim capable of online races
   in Windows NT?

[If the answer is "no", I might change to 95/98, depends...]

2. How do you think an online GPL (VROC?) works (or does it work)
in a system, where my PC is a workstation in the LAN, and the
LAN is directly in the Internet?

you might get problems with directX (i.e. direct-sound and
direct-input). I'd rather use win98.

what do you mean "directly"? if you've got an official IP-address and
there is no firewall between you and the rest of the net, than it's no
problem (but admins get shot for doing things like this normally ...).
if you are behind a firewall, you have to ask the admin to open the
specific ports (6970, 6971, 32766-32786). if you have no official
IP-address (i.e. your company is using NAT and/or proxies), the inbound
packets have to be redirected to your host. you find an explanation with
an example for a linux firewall at
http://members.home.net/jms1/gplmultiplayer.html (I use this at home
myself: works like a charm!).

GPL runs on NT, even multi processors as far as I know...

I'm using a couple of systems at my office as servers.  From what I've heard,
the people who join say the connections are very stable.  Can't help you with
the NT question...
