Have you been banned from N4 Multiplayer???

by Mortad » Sat, 01 Sep 2001 09:39:07

From a Papy server mod via the Sierra forums:

"Id like to make a few clarifications about cd keys being banned from
Sierra.coms NASCAR Racing 4 multiplayer system. Allow me to start by
saying up front that we dont want to ban anybodys cd key. In fact,
the reviewing of wrecking reports and server replays is a very time
consuming process that is handled mostly in the free time of a couple
of Papyrus employees. We are only doing this because the community
literally screamed for us to take some action for months. Well, here
we are. A very clear warning has been posted on the multiplayer login
screen that you have to accept each and every time you login, and its
been there for several weeks.

First, let me define intentional wrecking. It doesnt matter if you
are the one that has been trying to take out the field for 1 or more
laps, or if youre the guy that is now retaliating against the alleged
intentional wrecker. Intentional wrecking is not tolerated regardless
of whether youre the instigator or retaliator. If you are determined
to be guilty after the very careful review of the entire server replay
in which you were reported, your cd key is going to be banned. It
doesnt matter if youre the seasoned veteran of online racing or the
new guy just starting out and youve become frustrated because youre
not competitive yet. It has been the case, the majority of the time
that a retaliation wreck was delivered to somebody that was obviously
being accused, tried, and convicted as an intentional wrecker by the
rest of the field. Yet, the review of the replay clearly showed that
they were trying to run clean but either made a mistake, warped, were
punted out of the way by impatient leaders screaming LAPPER GO HIGH,
LEADERS COMING THROUGH, were trying to continue on with tires ready to
blow from spinning, or the victim of a few other variables. (I wont
even get started on my feelings about the lapper nonsense right now
<G>)

Weve processed approximately 350 reports since we started accepting
them. Out of this 350, 59 user IDs have been submitted for a cd key
ban. Out of this 59, there are about 15 users that have had reports on
multiple IDs, resulting in approximately 44 actual cd keys being
banned. An additional 54 user IDs have been put on watch. A driver
is put on watch when we cannot be absolutely 100% certain that their
behavior was intentional. While were on this subject, we do not just
look at the incident(s) that were reported. We watch the entire replay
and profile the drivers abilities, connection quality, and overall
behavior. You may recall a campaign from a recently banned user
claiming that he was wrongly banned. This individuals behavior
throughout the race showed that he was a very capable driver that was
caught up in a racing deal early in the race. After that, he
demonstrated that knew how to hold a line when faster traffic passed
him, EXCEPT when 1 particular car passed himsuddenly his skill level
and behavior changed, several times, and only when that same car would
attempt to pass him.

So, if you been able to stay with this painfully long post, the
bottom line is we are not trigger happy when issuing a cd key ban. If
you are not intentionally out to wreck other users, you have
absolutely nothing to worry about. In fact, the few people that are
devoting their time to this have been racing online competitively for
up to 7 years, and would be more than happy to spend their personal
time elsewhere. (like actually racing <G>) They have the experience
and know what to look for when reviewing a replay. We are still
getting WAY too many bogus reports that are the result of warp, hard
racing, or poor decision making on the part of 1 or more drivers, it
sure would be nice to see this change in the very near future.

#Papyrus1 "

bla bla bla.

What didn't that mail clarify ? It made 100% sence, and the fact that
the papy guys do it partly in their spare time because the community
asked for it is another hat's off to them.

Wreckers have gotta go!!!
KUDOS PAPY!!!

Papy is just giving out stop-and-go penalties, just like NASCAR

You stop-and-go buy a new CD.

Banning isn't taken lightly! You can bet you ass that
Papy went over your replay thoroughly. They
must of seen something, huh?!
