N4 multiplayer problem

N4 multiplayer problem

by Hank Paul » Wed, 31 Jan 2001 13:00:40

Hi all,

Luv N4 demo (can't wait for release!)

When playing in multiplayer (via IRF) I can only run
for a few minutes before getting the message
"10035 Error Detected on Network Device"
I get good pings (150 range) w/ 56K modem.
Hascar Heat seems fine in multiplayer so I'm not
convinced its by local service provider.
Any ideas, hints, tips, etc........

Thanks,  Hank

You might want to try enabling the disable_icmp_checking=0 line in your
CORE.INI (change the zero to a one).

Eric,

Thanks for the tip, I tryed it and it doesn't seem to make a difference.
The latency is always good as is the time skew. The quality always starts
out great, then the bar continues to grow until I get the error message.
Most times the system gets flushed and I'm OK again (for a while).
In the interim there is severe warp and stutter.

Any other ideas? (i.e. modem settings, etc.)

Thanks,  Hank

I had a Cnet USB modem that behaved similar to your description except in
GPL (10012 network error I believe).  This was a few years ago (pre-dsl) and
my solution was to switch back to the old trusty internal USR 56k.

Do you run the modem at 56k?  That is usually a less-than-robust
connection.  I know GPL only needs 21kbps or so of bandwidth (not sure
about N4 but assume its similar).  Why not drop your modem to 28.8k or
so and try it.  Your latency will climb a bit (probably 250 vs. 150
msec), but you should have a much more stable connection.

nothing to be frightened of, and no limit, any fool could get into
a motor car and racing would not exist as a sport." -- Jim Clark
