Modifying ICR2 DRIVERS2.TXT

by Alan Pengel » Tue, 12 Nov 1996 04:00:00

Hi

In order to improve the general handling of ICR2 at certain tracks
I'm considering modifying the DRIVERS2.TXT file. I'm loath to do it
really, but the handling a some tracks seems very unrealistic. What
I'm considering doing is to increase the traction level for my car
, but to increase drag as well (so that I don't go faster).

I'm not really after extra speed, I just want to remove some
of the sluggishness of the car. My question is whether anyone
else has tried this and whether it was really effective. BTW, I've
patched both ICR100_1 and ICR101_2, so the problem isn't the
early traction bug.

What I really want to do eventually is get the AI cars behaving as
much like the 1996 season cars as possible (I've got the PPG96
set - mighty fine it is to). However, 1:28 at Surfers seems to be
to fast (in comparison with the real cars). I can get 1:30.xxx so
speed isn't really the problem - it's just not realistic.
Iknow I could lower the performance, but I hate reducing the performance
level below 100% - it's sort of asthetically displeasing.

I'd be interested in any comments. Also, would this infringe
the rules for the ICR2 racing series?

Once I've got this sorted it's championship season time!

BTW, if you haven't done so already, you must get Gerhard Lingenberg's
track converters and load Talladega, Pocono, Sears Point, Watkins Glen
and Atlanta into ICR2 - they're great circuits and I must say I'd
love to see an Indycar race at Talladega and Pocono!

regards

Alan

Modifying ICR2 DRIVERS2.TXT

You will not effect your own cars settings in drivers2.txt.  If you want
more grip etc., you need to modify the track.txt files.  You can effect the
individual relative strengths of the computer cars in drivers2.txt, but it
doesn't sound like that is what you want.  There is plently of inet sites
that explain how to edit your track.txt files and drivers2.txt (or just
download one of the editors that exist for this).

Changing the track.txt files is against I think all leagues.
