ICR2: New DRIVERS2.TXT thru Nazareth

by Michael E. Carv » Fri, 03 May 1996 04:00:00

I am sorry to be so late in posting my revised data for the DRIVERS2.TXT
file.  I have been experimenting with a slightly different means of
generating the figures.  I am still using the fastest lap for each
driver from all of the races so far this season.  I have had some
feedback about the traction numbers being too high.  I have lowered them
somewhat, but I don't really want them to be too low as this number
really affects the AI's ability to drive a track.

I have done extensive testing of this data at Nazareth to see how it
shakes up.  There are a couple of surprising driver performances.  Poor
Emmo still doesn't fair well very often.  This is due to his less than
stellar performances in the earlier races.  And a couple of drivers do
alot better than expected.

For Nazareth, the field produced by this data may be too strong for some
of us (it is for me).  Due to the way the program calculates overall
speeds and times for this track I think the RELS number is off in the
NAZARETH.TXT file.  The track in the game is  0.9872 miles in length,
thus the speeds are off by 1.28%.  Anyway, if you feel that the field is
too strong at NAZARETH, I would suggest changing the RELS number in the
NAZARETH.TXT file to 96 (this is only 1% less than the original number).
This should provide a field very similar to the race run this last
weekend.  If you really want to recreate the race, change the BLAP
number to 19115.  This should translate to a top qualifying speed of
190.737 mph (Tracy's track record breaking qualifying speed).  By the
way, this is also the number to use to simulate the track record in the
RECORDS.TXT file.

Any of you race jockeys man enough to take on this field at NAZARETH?

I think I may have uuencoded the wrong file.  I think the one in the
earlier post is a unix file.  I am attaching the save file but in good
ole' DOS format.  Sorry about that...

After more extensive testing I highly suggest altering the RELS line in
NAZARETH.TXT to 95.  This should recreate fastest laps by AI drivers to
match those reported by EDS for the real drivers at the 1996 running at
Nazareth.  I also suggest changing BLAP to 19150, this should keep the
best AI qualifying speed to 190.xxx .  When I say that the fastest laps
recreate the speeds of this years race, this includes the 1.28%
"inflation" reported by ICR2's calculations.

Since I am not the fastest or best driver out there, I am curious as to
what kind of times some of you hotshots are getting at Nazareth &
Michigan with full race setups.

Could you please post some of your best race setup speeds or times?

Wow, three follow up posts to your own topic.  Tsk, tsk, tsk.

I am roughly turning low 30s laps in full race trim.  Low meaning 30.1 or so.
