best non-ff wheel???

by Adam Musia » Sun, 31 Mar 2002 06:28:41

Hi,
I'm planning to buy a steering wheel to use mostly with racer and rally
trophy. In order to geta ff wheel you have to spend twice as much money - do
you think it's worth it? Do you really need it to get fast lap times???
What is the best non-ff wheel available on the market? I've heard many good
things about the MS Precision Racing Wheel - what do you think about it?

Thank You in advance.

I like the MS Precision. I own the non FF and just purchased the FF
version. The non FF wheel has always been solid, easy to setup, reliable
and very durable. I'm hoping for the same with the FF version. For the
price I think the MS non FF is a great deal, unless you get a bad unit you
should be happy.

Forget the MS if you have 2000 or XP, its not compatible. The Momo is a
great wheel for the price even though its FF.

Not true, my MS wheel works just fine.  It's USB.  You might worry if
you have the old gameport version.  The Sidewinder software even works
in XP.

That's what I have.  The MS PRW.  I bought it 2 xmas's ago.  My pedals
broke around xmas time but the wheel is still working.  I didn't like
the pedals anyway so it gave me an excuse to buy some new clutch
pedals.

I have a Logitech Wingman GP--non force feedback--it works great-no set up
problems--I had originally bouth the Forced Feedback version--it worked
great-but it didnt feel like a car-but like a steering wheel that had a mind of
its own---I run Nascar 3 GP Rally-Rally masters--works on all!

OK, you don't say where you are in the World so I'll give you 2 options for
the best no-FF wheel.

The best non-FF wheels are from the TSW range and the BRD range. I think the
prices will surprise you since they are more expensive than almost all the
force feedback wheels on the market at the moment.

The TSW wheels are available from http://www.thomas-superwheel.com/ and cost
between $225 and $1055 for the standard wheels.  They also offer a range of
add-ons to customise each whele further.  Everyone who has a TSW wheel I've
spoken to raves about them.

The BRD wheels are available from http://www.interactiveracing.com/ and cost
from 160 to 350.  I have just bought a BRD Sim Classic wheel and it is
fantastic.  I got it on Thrusday and knocked 0.34 seconds off my PB at
Silverstone in GPL within 8 laps.

Cheers

Phil

Phil, welcome to the club, BRD wheels are awesome (I have two!) and have a
real quality feel about them.

TSW Rave here. I haven't had the opportunity to try a BRD but I DO have a
TSW2 Cup and it is plenty good enough for me. I doubt I will own another
wheel unless Thomas comes out with something better. Lifetime warranty on
everything but the pots is nice too though it is a gimmick, I can't see
anything BUT pots wearing out on this unit, very solid.
