Logi Formula (not GP) Wheels (FF & non-FF)

by Joe L » Tue, 03 Apr 2001 06:15:00

I have seen a few Logitech Formula wheels, both Force and non Force.
These are NOT the newer "GP" models.   Most of the reviews I have read on
the GP models say that they are ok but not as good as the original non-GP.
So, for those of you with expierence could you tell me if any of these
non-GP wheels are worth looking into? Would I be better off getting some
other wheel?

Hi...I had an old Formula (all black) nonFF earlier. I sold that to a
friend a year ago...:( and I have been looking for the same model with
FF (all yellow) the last couple of months. I coud'nt find it anywhere,
so I just last week bought a Formula FF GT(partly red)
My experience is, that the quality of the wheel is more "plasticish"
than the old one..:( and the clamping system is MUCH worse...!
But apart from that, I think I got what I payed for..:)
It's cheap (around 110 USD in Denmark).
...and SCGT is included...I just put it beside the SCGT I bought 2 years
ago for 50 USD..:)

I also had two wheels for test 2 weeks ago: A Thrustmaster 360 Modena
Pro and a similar without Pro. None of them is FF...The diff between the
nonPro and the Pro is a shifter included on right side of the Pro. These
wheels are similar to the Nascar thing from Thrustmaster I think...
And also very cheap....(Pro=85 USD  -  nonPro= 62 USD)

I think for now I keep my LWFF-GT
and I break it apart and make a better clamping system... some day...
Or maybe find a second hand old-type-LWFF model with good clamping and
more metal..:) and change the pot's....:)

Good luck searching...

the yellow is non-FF, the red one is FF

This one is the new LWFF

I bought 3 old LWFF's in german ebay, from 135 to 180DM. the latter one was a
never-used Taiwan one.

If you can get an old LWFF, go for it.
They should sell quite cheap right now, if still available.
Wear parts (cables, switches, pots, bearings <aehm>) are available from 3rd
party, so this wheel can last forever.

I guess that anybody who tried it will confirm that the LWFF is the smoothest
wheel available.
