F1 2001 - Question, please help

by Peter Fisl » Tue, 16 Oct 2001 03:10:33

Hi All,

Well looks like F1 2001 will be a replacement for GP3 at least until GP4 comes out.
The game is pretty smooth on my :

P3 500Mhz, 256MB RAM
Elsa Gladiac Ultra (Det. 21.83, full screen mode)
Windows 2000 Pro (SP2)
Directx8a

The sound and the feel of speed is the best I have ever seen. Never mind the great graphics
and physics. Don't know much about AI yet only played for about an hour but its a huge
improvement from F1 2000 (that was junk).

Question:

When I race in a GP and I crash I would like to be able to watch the whole race how can I  do that ?
I started a race and on purpose crashed so that I can watch the race as a spectator. Well as soon as
I crashed the race went into accelerate mode and that was that, I don't like this. What do I have
to do to be able to watch the race as say in GP3 ?

Thanks...

Peter

PS: Will I get any speed improvement if I switch to windowed mode ?

PS2: I have instant replays on yet when I hit the "R" key during a race I don't get any replays what gives ?

Here's how to watch the race, along with some other tweaks.

David G Fisher

Essential Edits

For the view race after retirement
In the \F1-2001\PlayerDir\PlayerName.PLR
change:
NoAIControl=1

Helmet and Shadows in T-CAM

See pic, notice that I turned the arms of on purpose
http://www.racesimcentral.net/

you will have shadows and to my surprise a full featured moving helmet too
that many people wanted
but you have to edit the camera views or you will see through it a little,
lower clipping planes settings will solve the problem,
btw by changing one of the onboard cams in default.cfg you could make it a
T-CAM too btw and that one would work with AI cars too

ShadowsInTvCockpit=1

To stay in current view while pitting:
LockedPitCam=0

To see more cars at once change
VisibleVehicles=12 to any value you want

To get more detail in mirrors
VG_Rear_Trees=1
VG_Rear_Grandstands=1
VG_Rear_Pitlane_Obj=1
VG_Rear_Bbs_fences=1
VG_Rear_Buildings=0
VG_Rear_Misc=1
VG_Rear_Bridges=1
VG_Rear_Shadows=1

For more sensitive damage download this patch it will allow the slider to go
to 127%
http://www.racesimcentral.net/

to globally change camera views
goto \F1-2001\Save\default.cfg

here is my***pit view
http://www.racesimcentral.net/
http://www.racesimcentral.net/
http://www.racesimcentral.net/
http://www.racesimcentral.net/

LocalCam=COCKPIT
{
Fov=(77.000000, 62.500000)
Clear=TRUE
Color=(164, 218, 249)
ClipPlanes=(0.100000, 500.000000)
LODMultiplier=(1.000000)
Size=(1.000000, 1.000000)
Center=(0.500000, 0.500000)
Flags1=(0)
Flags2=(0)
RadiusLimits=(0.000000, 0.000000)
OrientationRate=(35.000000, 35.000000, 35.000000)
PositionOffset=(0.000000, -0.086000, 0.000000)
OrientationOffset=(0.000000, 0.000000, 0.000000)
Radius=(-0.100000)

To get more detailed cars while further away in any view, higher
LODMultiplier= values

Now for the Nowheel NoArms thingy open:
\F1-2001\Season01\Vehicles\f1car.gen

you will see many sections of car graphics parts
to disable the wheel locate:

Instance=WHEEL
{
Moveable=True

change it to Moveable=False

to disable the annoying hands and arms comment out the

Instance=ARMS section like they did in school.gen file like this

// Instance=ARMS
// {
// Moveable=True
//<SPIN> MeshFile=<1234>tcarmsa.MTS CollTarget=False HATTarget=False
LODIn=(0.0) LODOut=(100.0)
//<LOW> MeshFile=<1234>tcarmsb.MTS CollTarget=False HATTarget=False
LODIn=(0.0) LODOut=(10.0)
//<MED> MeshFile=<1234>tcarmsb.MTS CollTarget=False HATTarget=False
LODIn=(0.0) LODOut=(12.0)
//<HIGH> MeshFile=<1234>tcarmsa.MTS CollTarget=False HATTarget=False
LODIn=(0.0) LODOut=(4.0)
//<HIGH> MeshFile=<1234>tcarmsb.MTS CollTarget=False HATTarget=False
LODIn=(4.0) LODOut=(15.0)
//<MAX> MeshFile=<1234>tcarmsa.MTS CollTarget=False HATTarget=False
LODIn=(0.0) LODOut=(7.0)
//<MAX> MeshFile=<1234>tcarmsb.MTS CollTarget=False HATTarget=False
LODIn=(7.0) LODOut=(20.0)
// AnimFile=catsteer.ANM
// }

notice you won't see the wheel or arms in other views too

I saw someone complaining that F12001 didn't have a fixed chase view like
GPL.
But you can adjust that in F12001 just edit
\F1-2001\Save\default.cfg in the SWINGMAN section edit like this

OrientationRate=(1.250000, 360.000000, 0.000000)

The view in the vertical axis will be locked now you can edit it for the
other views too and you can even make the***pit view looser than GPL with
a lower value in the COKPIT SECTION

To Disable annoying grid Walkthrough before race
In \F1-2001\Save\PlayerDir\Player.PLR

change from 1 to 0
like this

PR_Walkthrough=0
QR_Walkthrough=0
GP_Walkthrough=0
CH_Walkthrough=0
MP_Walkthrough=0

To get Get***pit cam TV-Cam for AI cars
open the default.cfg in the save dir and copy the***pit sections and paste
it to the bottom now rename whis sections to

ONBOARD007
ONBOARD008
ONBOARD009

and there you have it you have 3 camera views more for the
home key that you can use with other cars, you can add many more cams but I
am not sure what the limit is.

To get high detail steering wheels for AI cars open "f1car.gen" search for
this line
<NOTSPIN><DASHLOW> MeshFile=lowwheel.MTS CollTarget=False HATTarget=False
LODIn=(0.0) LODOut=(20.00)
and replace with this.
<NOTSPIN><DASHLOW> MeshFile=<1234>swa.MTS CollTarget=False HATTarget=False
LODIn=(0.0) LODOut=(20.00)

I didn't test if this works but it should work I think.

To get the game playable with keyboard without driving aids
In controller setup I use:
Keyboard Sensitivity 30 to be able to counter steer
Speed Sensitivity 100 to take curves like curva grande smooth
In car setup I use Steering lock around 12 to 17 degrees
A diff lock of around 50 and soften rear suspension and tyres for better
rear stability when accelerating and braking

Something for the future ?
Multi Monitor ?
http://www.racesimcentral.net/

This should be possible right now with 3 computer, 2 clients joined to a
host in multiplay and some edited camera views in default.cfg. but
unfortunately no AI cars

I think the answer is don't crash!  If you just park your car, you can watch
the race from each of the other cars to the end.

This is from a FAQ at http://www.jensonf1.com/f12001:

When I retire from a race, the game forces me to leave the race and watch
the results in accelerated time. Is there any way to view the race from the
on board and external camera angles like in Grand Prix 3?
In the \F1-2001 directory\Save\PlayerName\PlayerName.PLR file simply change
NoAIcontrol=0 to NoAIControl=1

Good post Dave.
If you don't want to disable the pit walkthrough completely, just press
'space' when it's running to exit it.

PS: this game is fun but I miss the GP3 telemetry...well F1 2001 will
