Here is a small sample of the interview
http://www.racesimcentral.net/
with the producer of EA's F1 2000.

Looks like another arcade folks :(

8. Will F1 2000 have a pace car? If so, can you explain how that will
work?

9. The weather in Sports Car GT was pretty good, will you continue
that in F1 2000?

10. In Sports Car GT, there was only a green, black, or checkered
flag.  Will F1 2000 support all flags, like blue flags or yellow
flags, or even debris flags?

The hell? Why?
I "was" looking forward to this game ... :(

Notice he deliberately avoided the "how does F1 2000's physics engine compare
to Grand Prix Legends' physics engine?" question by simply saying he enjoys
F12K "far" more. No telling...

EA's publishing it so it being an arcade game shouldn't come as much of
a shock...

I loved the answer to this question.  This guy has a future in politics. He
dodged more questions than a U.S. Presidential candidate.

"11. Even though 1967 F1 cars are totally different than modern F1 cars, how
does F1 2000's physics engine compare to Grand Prix Legends' physics engine?

I enjoy playing F1 2000 far more."

There are a few things that are worrying me about this game.  (1) The
modeling of the cars and the drivers helmets is quite odd.  The wheels
appear quite large and the helmets too small.  This contributes to the cars
appearing huge.  (2) The interviewee states that F1 2000 is an update of the
SCGT engine.  I don't think that the SCGT engine was worth keeping.  It's
very erratic (fps-wise) in how it handles traffic and I don't find it very
smooth.  When playing SCGT I tend to turn down details and race with a
smaller field (10-12 cars).  I'm not happy to do that with a modern F1 sim.
In regards to system requirements, I think that Papy did a great job with
GPL and whoever developed SBK2000 also did a nice job. (3)  Why not include
all the flags?  I don't think this is a huge drain on development resources.
Didn't F1RS and MGPRS2 include all the flags?  Or course they also modeled
weather, which is also being excluded from this game.

I was looking forward to picking up this game when it shipped.  I use F1
sims to learn the tracks and follow along with the real season as it
progresses.  I wanted something earlier than GP3, nowow it looks as if I'll
have to wait another 3 months.

Apart from World Sports Car, are there any other realistic sims on the
horizon?

I've visited ISI's office, and talked to Gjon quite
a bit about SCGT and F12k.  I've also driven F12k
for a total of about an hour.

The early version that I drove had some sound
problems, and I did almost no driving against
the AI. There were some rough edges that
needed work.

While driving, all I really concentrated on was
the handling of the car.  What I can say is that
everything felt right.  Assuming ISI can get the
details right (sound, AI, FF, etc.), I think
that F12k will be a great sim - much better
than SCGT in a lot of ways.  The physics seems
to be at least on par with Viper racing.

Bottom line, I think they've done a great job
on the physics, and that's the biggest issue
for me.  I'm not as sensitive to a lot of
other issues.  Hopefully, ISI can deliver
in all those other issues as well.

And Falcon 4.0 is published by a company that makes Star Wars toys, so
what?

Yes I agree Pat physics is most important to me too. I would like all the
other enhancements but physics is number one on my list. I hope it is not a
cpu pig like SCGT though. I too can only run 10 cars and be stable with the
fps in SCGT. If it has good physics I'll buy it.

Exactaly what you are saying is all I've been hearing.  I don't know about the
authenticity about this interview.  The points brought up from gamespot uk also
conterdict what this interview says.  It doesn't seam right to me.  I wrote a
letter to gjon just now asking about this interview.

EA publishes RC2000 and SBK200, and both are brilliant sims.

Who's to say that it's not Gamespot that got it wrong, rather than the
interview?

And how does the gamespot article contradict the interview, out of interest?
(I'm too lazy to look them both up)

Good point. I'm surprised he didn't answer like Clinton, "in my
defnition of physics I think F1's is better".
