The Viper V330 is a NEW card, where the Monster 3D has been around for a
year already.
Therefore, one would assume that the hardware is more sophisticated, and the
ratings in magazines such as PC *** rate the Viper (along with other RIVA
128 Chip cards) as a best buy!
The only drawback to the viper is that it's new, and their still working on
Open GL drivers for it, but given it's D3D ratings, and other scores that
I've seen I'm sure when the final release of the Open GL drivers are out it
will be one kick ***card.
The Monster has been out for at least a year, and therefore more game makers
support it, but with a Monster II on the way next spring I would be very
hesitant to buy a regular Monster card now.
Don't forget the Viper is a 2D / 3D card, not a 3D add on card like the
monster!
With these in mind I would go with the Viper as a matter of fact I did!,
just a few weeks ago :-) so you might say that my view point is a bit
biased, but reasons such as these are why I decided to take a chance on the
RIVA 128 based card, and so far I haven't been disappointed.
If however, your interested in racing games that are already out such as
Nascar2, Cart racing (formerly Indycar II) and the like, Papyrus/Sierra only
supports Rendition based video cards at the present time :-(
Hope that helps....
