Newbie Question about which 3D card buy Please help!

  My system is as follows:

 Dell 200mmx
 SB soundcard
 64 ram
   Matrox millieum II  4mb PCI

I have downloaded GPL demo, and at times it is like watching a slide show.
I want a card that will enhance  N2, and Nascar 99.  And maybe run GPL a
little better.   Also when I upgrade, do I remove the old card, or run both
cards?  Also what size card?  8, 12, or 16 mb?

Thanks,
              Mike

For GPL the Rendition V2 cards provide the best performace for most people
with first generation Pentium type systems.  On my AMD K6-233 I have a
Diamond Stealth 220 which is a Rendition V2100/4mb, and a Voodoo1. In GPL
the Stealth outperforms the Voodoo1. I can get 25-36 fps (640x480) in
practice with zero to 2 AI cars at the Glen. The Voodoo1 never goes higher
than 25. I have read the 8mb Rendition cards are better. Of course with
lots of AI cars, fps drops down to mid ***s.

However if you are planning to upgrade your system soon consider a 12mb
Voodoo2. It will perform a little better than the Voodoo1 in your present
system, and when you upgrade to a P2 - it will really start to shine.

As far as NASCAR - I believe the same holds true, however I only just
started playing N99 and can't say for sure.

I have a rendition v200 card and a voodoo2  12mb card.  In the papyrus sims,
the rendition card provids better framerates but one needs to patch the .exe
files (they are optimized for a rendtion v1000 chip). I like the graphics
quality of the rendition v2000 over the voodoo2...since i omly have a p-166mmx,
my cpu is even more limited than your's.  I bought my rendition card (v-reptor)
from www.genoasystems.com at $79.00...took a week for shipping.   Be advised
that the voodoo2 may give more flexibility for other games and can be moved
into a new PC perhaps easier than the rendition card....Bottom line, there's
lots of opinions and trade-offs between each and every graphics card, so the
decision has to be your own..
