I have to admit I'm prejudiced, but if you really enjoy racing the only
card that is supported right now is Rendition. And since Sierra/Papyrus
has Nascar2 and Indycar2 with full Rendition support it is my pick.
Furthermore, you get A-10, Quake and ***gladiators (think Mortal
Combat on steroids) all for under $200 at retail or direct from Sierra.
And, as always, if you don't like it you can return it for a refund.

Hi,

I am looking to get the best gameplay out of my PC right now.  I
currently have a Diamond Stealth 2mb PCI video card.

Which 3d card would you folks recommend to play:

driving games:  Nascar2, ICR2, GP2
first person games:  Quake, Duke Nukem, etc.

thanks,

Any of the Rendition cards will fit the bill nicely.  The Sierra
Screamin'3D and Intergraph's Reactor ship with ICR2 and Quake.  Nascar2
is also Rendition Ready.  For Duke Nukem, these cards have on-board
VESA 2.0 (no need for SciTech's Display Doctor to get the hi-res modes)
and these resolutions are very fast.

I would recommend the Intergraph because it is $50 cheaper and they
offer much better support than Sierra.  For details see:

A Rendition card would be your best bargain - at $149 for the Reactor,
that'a a 4MB 3D card for the same (or less) price as a bogus Virge
card.  And it will handle all those DOS games in SVGA fairly well too.
Plus, there's the Rendition support in ICR2 and N2, and I saw where
Psygnosis' F1 will support Rendition.

Bottom line, if you HAVE to have a card NOW, this is a good bargain.
Why spend a fortune on a more costly board, only to have it become
obsolete with the impending MMX, AGP, etc. etc. etc. ?

He must be right. he knows everything.
I thought you would recommend the 3D Blaster. it is the better card.
